I would also love to get an answer on that! My 700p has been rebooting itself on a regular basis. I just finished doing the update (I had to hard reset it first because mine too was caught in the endless reboot loop - is that the most annoying thing in the world or what). Time will tell if it addresses the reboots. I will know in a matter of a couple of days, since a couple of days has not gone by without a reboot or two.
Looks to be a rather comprehensive update. To the first person who gets this sucker installed, can you please report on the following: 1. Is VersaMail the only updated app or any of the other core apps slightly updated as well? 2. How is the overall system stability? 3. Does the MR break compatibility with any 3rd party programs? 4. Approx. how much has the lag/delay when launching Blazer been minimized? 5. Can the 700p see 8gb SDHC cards like the Treo 680 can (ie as two separate 4gb volumes)?

Here's the TC thread that tracks all of the ROM update changes and compatible/incompatible apps:

Ohmanohmanohmanohmanohmanohmanohman
Damn you Verizon! I have to sit and look at this fantasy list of features while my buggy, crashy, busted Verizon phone sits laughing at me. ((cry)) Palm Pilot 1000 > Palm Pilot Professional > Palm III > Palm M100 > Sony Clié PEG-T415 > Palm T|T3 > Samsung SCH-i730 > Palm 700p

It's amazing how easily people on this site can get exactly what they want and still bitch about it.
Just wondering since 24MB are needed... just wondering if it uses up more memory when updated.... I currently only have 10MB free space and do not want to give up an MBs... Mike RE: 700p update to 1.10 version Sprint
From comments on the recent Cingular 680 update you are going to have to free up a lot more memory! (One person talked about needed 24 MB for that) But since the installation of the MR results in a hard reset, your memory will be purged anyway, so don't worry about. So you probably should: RE: 700p update to 1.10 version Sprint
Hotsync and/or just load Backupman (Trial should work if you haven't installed it yet), make an image to card, hard reset then install the update under a fake username. Run the update on the device, after it's successful then restore from hotsync and/or Backupman. I would never run a ROM update while I have data on the device - it's just asking for trouble.
Does anyone know how much space this update to 1.10 Sprint on the 700p will take up, when completed? Mike 700p RE: Memory after update
not that much. Looking at my Treo I had 46mb available and now I have 45mb available. I do recommend backing up ALL your data because it does erase everything.

Has anyone else had trouble after the MR Update? After all the files transferred, my 700P went into an endless loop of restarts. I can't get it out. Palm LiveChat support gave up after a hard reset failed. Anyone else have this trouble? JFB RE: Trouble after MR Update?
I had exactly the same issue. I performed a soft reset. No change. Then eventually had to perform a hard reset - and not its working.
Try a hard reset-not a system reset. cheers
i updated my treo 700p sprint today and when it asked me to calibrate the screen i was sent into an endless reset loop. i tried a hard reset with no result. i eventually called palm and they got me to the phone screen and i checked the software and it did update however whenever i tried to turn the phone on and it was sent into and endless reset loop again. after trying everything palm threw at me they told me my phone was useless and since their update was responsible they are replacing my phone for free. they also said i was not alone with this problem RE: update killed my 700pbrehanyj@gmail.com @ 6/5/2007 12:52:54 AM #
How long are they making you wait? I was told that I would have to wait 5-7 business days, unless I paid $25 for a 2-3 business day wait. John B RE: update killed my 700pjoelaposta @ 6/5/2007 3:14:09 PM #
I had the same problem, I finally took the phone to a Sprint repair center, and they took it apart and told me there was "corrosion" around my screen, and that caused it. Due to that the insurance is requiring the $50 fee for a new phone. Great. Perhaps after the phone comes in I can call Sprint or Palm and get them to reimburse the $50 fee. Internal "corrosion" is the carriers' version of BestBuy's gold-plated USB cables. Some of the TC gang who got their 700p bricked by the update have managed to get replacement units out of Palm. Of course, YMMV as always....
My update was successful. However I had problems with: IBM Java VM - had to reinstall. Google Maps - had to reinstall. Resco Explorer - lost it's license code. Existing one I had did not work. I got a new upgrade code for free. Blue Nomad - be sure to disable the auto back up features. I nearly had a heart attack when it ran after a reset. At approximately 10pm CST tonight the phone was running "Memos" it went to sleep and awoke again when it did a random reset. I went to the phone screen to verify this via ##ERR#. So it looks like random reboots are going to be the norm again. I've not used the phone much so I'll report back in the days to come. RE: Update
Because of the DB Cache issues some larger files have problems on a restore. If you load UDMH first you should be able to get it all to come back from an SD image.

Well I successfully installed the update on my phone with no problems.
First of all the update itself went well, but it did take a while (about thirty minutes). Although I've heard some people on TreoCentral say the update restores all of your previous files and third party applications I can't confirm this since I had to reinstall everything (pretty much a simple HotSync operation). Although I never had any stability issues with my 700p there are a few things about this update I did notice. With the exception of Blazer most of the lag seems to be taken care of (especially the lag between switching applications). Music playback also seems to be much improved. One change with the phone application I noticed (which had me confused for a few minutes) is the normal roaming symbol has been replaced with a blue triangle. Why this was done (I thought the large "R" symbol was pretty self explanatory) I don't know but whatever. I haven't ran into any problems with third party applications not working which is good news. I know I'm looking forward to proper SDHC support. If anybody has an 8GB card they can try out in the 700p I'd like to hear if it works properly. Overall the update seems to be good, at least I haven't had any issues yet.
Thanks to Verizon for letting Sprint users discover the bugs in this release first! From the postings on the forums, a significant number of Sprint users are worse off after the update. If Verizon has to hold it back so they can fix some of these issues (looping, bricking) - then thank you again!
It is mind boggling how they can take months to test a release only to have the problems they are seeing now upon release. Sounds like the safest method is to backup, hard reset, update from a clean card, then restore. Those who tried running the update from ROM seem to have had a lot more problems...
I did the ROM update via hotsync from PC. Took about 45 minutes. I've not had any problems yet but I haven't used it a lot.
Well, Palm screwed us again - I've already invested too much in the 755 (cards, cases, contract) and it'll be hard to go back tho I really, really want to.
It may not be obvious yet except to heavy BT users, but how's the pairing - does it finally seem to stay working? And, has the lag come down at least a bit? The 755 seems to have a bit of lag entering the browser, but seems about half of what the 700p had.
I have had a very pleasant experience with the update! Bluetooth bugginess is seriously reduced and the only lag time I am seeing is with the launching of Blazer, but that is even reduced. Sorry to hear some of you had your Treo's "bricked" by this update and I hope all the rest of you have as great an experience as I did. And, finally, Sprint stepped up for it's customer's before Verizon. Here's hoping that is an indication of things to come from Sprint.
I'm amazed that anyone was able to get this update to work at all.
I installed the update yesterday after waiting a few months--failed to do my usual Google-fu to see if it was a good update and now my phone is BORKED. I have to wait for Palm to send me a new one. Why is this installer still up on their website when it FRIES PEOPLE'S PHONES?? Ridiculous!! Please warn people about this....DON'T DO IT!
