I tried installing and on the first step it says "restarting...". As soon as my 680 restarts, it says "Device Connection Failed" and give me the ability to try again. Guess what, it restarts my 680 again ending in the same message.

And we're back. So far everything is working fine except for Clockpop which is casuing a reset -- disappointing but not a big deal. It looks like I'll also have to register most of my software again....And the "skin" of the phone application looks darker and less sleek. Oh well. Thanks Palm.

I installed via the SD updater, since my 680's USB reliability has, of late, been flaky at best. Worked like a charm. Don't notice any difference at all, really, except it now asks me to enter my password after a soft reset.

So is there great news? There appears to be very little buzz on this update although on its face it appears significant. I don't have insurmountable battery issues after last update. Is there more on this front in this update or is this just a rebundling of the last "fix"? Any comments bsides those already here by a person that installed the update would be very much appreciated. I saw some problems in the previous comments. I wouldn't mind MP3 support for ringtones if it was not to complex. Prior comments on this front was confusing (to me). Larger SD cards seems good although available with some rangling as I understand prior t this update.

Enhanced ringtones ???

lolongan @ 1/16/2008 6:43:14 PM # Q
After updating, I still can not find to set mp3 file as ringtone

bcombee @ 1/17/2008 1:07:44 PM # Q
I think you either have to DL the MP3 through the web browser or open it as an email attachment, although installing the Files application from the 680's CD and trying to open the MP3 file might also work. The ringtone settings work through Exchange Manager; that needs to be used to pull the contents of the MP3 file into memory where the Phone application can see it.

Can you provide step by steps for those of us that are idiots (without an "I think")?
Thanks.

Disappointed

No Push to talk, No IM ...

In other words, the unlocked GSM ROM image doesn't have the applications added specifically by AT&T to their version.
So why be disappointed?

I think they should be included in unlocked GSM Treo 680 as well.

Those applications require services that are only on the AT&T network. Since this ROM is intended for phones that run on any GSM network, they wouldn't be appropriate and would cause support headaches for the "rest-of-the-world" carriers that sell the Treo 680.

What about for HK?

asiayeah @ 1/19/2008 10:35:31 AM # Q
Treo 680 Unlocked has a localized firmware for HK users. My Phone Info is displaying Treo680-1.0.5-APR. However, I don't see the same update is available on Palm Hong Kong Support site yet, http://www.palm.com/hk/ie/support/treo680/. Does that mean HK users have to wait longer (possibly a few months more?)?

With great power comes great responsiblity.

Checked with the Palm support HK, they said the firmware upgrade for Chinese users (such as Hong Kong) aren't available yet. It looks like we have to wait longer. My guess would be 2 or more months...based on Palm's experience.
