More Sprint Pre Phone Plans Details Revealed

Sprint LogoThe anonymous blogger behind the InsideSprintNow blog is back yet again with even more Pre-related goodness. This time around, the post deals with the flurry of discussion about the Pre requiring a new plan on new or upgraded line of service in order to activate a Pre. Over the past few months, many current Palm smartphone owners have been up in arms over the now-defunct SERO plans not being applicable for the Pre.

A full breakdown is listed for all of the applicable business, personal individual and family shared plans officially available for the Pre on Sprint. In addition, the chart goes the extra step to show the various discounts available on each plan for users who may, for example, bank with a credit union or work for a certain employer and be eligible for a service discount.

Sprint Palm Pre Plans

Power users will regretfully see that the "Simply Everything" (with unlimited voice minutes plans as well as messaging and data) and "Everything Plus" plans for employers and their friends/family (formerly the SERO plan) are not available with any sort of service discounts. In short, someone wishing to utilize their Pre to its full extent will need to pony up no less than $99.99 per month in order to gain unlimited voice, data, and messaging. As noted yesterday, there will be no additional charge for Palm's cloud-based backup service on the Pre.

Especially since AT&T is lowering iPhone plan costs.

So $2700 for a Pre + 2 year contract or $1800 for an iPhone with contract...or less if the rumor is true.

Palm and Sprint have a tall hill to climb. i've always been one to cheer for the underdog and as a Palm/Sprint guy for almost a decade i'm emotionally invested. I choose to see this as a chance for a big win.

$2700 - maybe they'll actually sell a few.

He said he's been paying $99/mo. That's what I expected all along. No surprised.

Where is that Gekko lad nowadays? Get back here, you punk!

Isn't Gekko the one who swore on a stack of bibles that the Pre was being launched on March or April 15th?

Give Gekko the ability to create a poll and suddenly he's Der Fuhrer.

Wanker.

Gekko has taken to hanging out in the TreoCentral/PreCentral forums lately. As the link above so amusingly shows, he seems content to be zapping the Palm optimists over there with little doses of Palm Pessimism while gently "encouraging" Palm to hurry up and release the Pre ASAP. It's obviously easier for him to get a rise out of the rah-rah crowd over there than the handful of bitter old curmudgeons here on PIC.

P.S. Speaking of curmudgeons, have we ever established who is the elder statesman of the Mike Cane/SV pair?
Pilot 1000->Pilot 5000->PalmPilot Pro->IIIe->Vx->m505->T|T->T|T2->T|C->T|T3->T|T5->Zodiac 2->TX->Verizon Treo 700P->Verizon Treo 755p->?

Are you simply measuring "years since birth" or does "sheer crotchetiness" impact the score? I'm not sure I can define either of them as "statesman". ;-)

Hey Palm! Where's my PDA with Wifi and phone capabilities?

Call me a "statesman" and imperil your life.

CRANK is the correct term.
