Engadget Mobile is
reporting that the
Treo 700wx, will be available shortly on the Alltel Wireless network. The 700wx, Palm's most recent Treo for CDMA networks, mainly differs from the earlier 700w by doubling the device's RAM to 64mb and incorporating some minor OS tweaks. Interestingly enough, the Engadget article claims that the Alltel version of this Treo will have a slightly newer version of Windows Mobile (5.2) vs. the 5.1.19 seen on Sprint's version of the 700wx.
Alltel's pricing is expected to be $350 with two-year contract. To date, Verizon is still offering the older Treo 700w with 32mb of RAM, though rumors of the 700wx's release for Verizon have been circulating lately.

Palm developer NewBornGames has released
mp3enc, the
first on device mp3 encoder available for Palm OS. It can convert WAV files into a variety of mp3 bitrates, ranging from 64 - 320kbps.
I tested out the trial version of mp3enc on a short piece of music. The resulting 192 kbps mp3 sounded quite good, with no obvious skipping or
compression artifacts.

It seems like only yesterday that 4gb SD 1.1 and 4gb SD 2.0 (aka SDHC) cards were released. But already 8gb SDHC cards are appearing in volume and free-falling in price.
Online e-tailer Newegg is listing a Transcend 8gb SDHC card for $130. Until very recently SD cards of this capacity were scarce and expensive, costing nearly $300.
