Synchronize with Desktop Databases with MobileLists

Handmark is now shipping MobileLists, which lets a handheld view and edit data from desktop databases. The Windows version comes with plug-ins for Access and Excel while the Macintosh one has plug-ins for FileMaker and Excel. It allows users to create databases on a handheld and synchronize them with a desktop application. It is avaiIable now for $50.

All tetris-clones, like Shape Fall, Petra-Luna, PalmTris, MegaTets, TetriksPlus, and bloc, were recently removed from PalmGear and Handango as "unauthorized games that blatantly infringe the TETRIS® copyrights and/or trademark". -SP2

Mark/Space is now offering cables that allow Palm models with the Universal Connector or the Sony S and N series to HotSync or connect to a GPS receiver, printer, mobile phone, etc. -PR

PalmSource Intros OS 5 Compatibility Program

PalmSource has announced an updated version of its Palm Powered Compatible Solution program. This allows developers to post a logo on their applications that certify that they are ready for Palm OS 5. In order to qualify for the logo, an application must pass rigorous testing by an independent lab proving that it is compliant with Palm OS 4 APIs and therefore will run on Palm OS 5. This testing isn't free but PalmSource will provide a free kit to help developers get ready.

Handspring Launches Wireless Email Service

Handspring has announced that Treo Mail, its wireless email service designed exclusively for the Treo line, is out of beta and now available. The service provides access to desktop email and can forward email from a PC to the Treo and vice versa. It had been available as a free beta since mid-March but yearly subscriptions are now being sold.

Electric Pocket has released of Ringo 2.0, a new version of its ringtone manager for the Treo. The key new feature is the ability to set personal ringtones for specific callers or groups of callers. -PR

iambic CEO Apologizes, Relinquishes Controversial Domains

Vidal Graupera, CEO of iambic, Inc., has just released a statement that says his company is relinquishing ownership of the web domains it recently registered with a rival product's name. The company asked Register.com to unregister the domains yesterday. The CEO goes on to apologize for ever registering them and promises to reconsider his company's marketing methods.

ProFile a Replacement Launcher and File Manager

ProFile Utilities is a new app from Proporta that tries to do it all. First off, it is a replacement for the built-in application launcher. It has a Today Summary, which shows each day's appointments and To-Do's at a glance. ProFile also has a file manager, which can move files between RAM and an SD card. It can compress files to save space and encrypt them to prevent unwanted people from using them. It even has a small scratch-pad for scrawling a quick note. ProFile Utilities is available now for $22.

Handheld Sales to Increase 13% this Year

The market research company IDC has released a report predicting that 2002 worldwide handheld shipments will increase 13% over 2001. Last year, 14.6 million handhelds were shipped worldwide. If IDC is correct, the total for this year will be 16.5 million. The company goes on to predict that annual handheld shipments will keep increasing, until by 2006 it will reach 31.6 million.

Proporta Introduces m500 Series Hardcase

Proporta, a new British webstore, has begin offering an aluminium hardcase for the Palm m500 series. At just 4.6 by 3.3 by 0.67 inches, the company claims it is the world's smallest. The Proporta Palm m500 Series Aluminium Case is made from 100% aircraft grade aluminium with an impact-protective neoprene lining and an anodised finish to match the handheld. It weighs 1.6 ounces and is available now for $31.

Purple Data Cables has released an adapter cable for the Handspring Treo. It can be used to connect with add-on devices such as GPSs, MIDI, etc. It is $50. -PR

iambic Registers Domain with Rival's Product Name

Several days ago, iambic registered the two new domain names. However, these weren't for products it makes. Instead, they were the names of some of its top competitor's products. On May 2, iambic registered DateBk4.com and DateBk5.com and directed them to its page for its calendar application, Action Names Datebook. DateBk4 and DateBk5 are two versions of a rival calendar application made by Pimlico Software.

Update: iambic's CEO has announced that his company has surrendered the two domains and he apologized for registering them in the first place.

Launch 'Em 3.5 Adds Support for Memory Cards

Synergy Solutions has posted on its website Launch 'Em 3.5, the latest version of its replacement for the built-in Launcher. The most important new feature is that can display applications stored on removable memory cards, like SD/MMC. It can also move files back and forth between RAM and a memory card. It is available now for $15.
