The Palm IIIc is here!

Head right on over to Palm.com the color Palm IIIc is officially here! Palm also launched this morning the IIIxe, the Palm Pocket Keyboard, and a new unlimited service plan for Palm.net. (I'm going to make it my personal mission to find a IIIc in a store today, let us know what you come up with... -@) Update: (8pm) Mission accomplished! I found a Palm IIIc at a local Franklin Covey store. Of all the retailers I called they were the only store that had them in. They sold all 8 in one day. I will be posting a detailed review later. My first impression is that the screen is absolutely gorgeous. Color really makes a big difference. There's also a review at MSNBC, a story at CNET, a piece on /. and finally ZDNet has a review as well.

Stowaway keyboard surfacing on some online retaile

The Stowaway keyboard from the folks at Think Outside is beginning to surface at several online retailers. Not wanting to give advantage to one retailer over another, you readers can search which retailers have them. Once at a retailer, search for the phrase "Palm V keyboard" or "Palm III/VII keyboard". This should turn up a product with a 3Com product code (3C10439U for the Palm V stowaway). While not shipping yet, 3Com told me yesterday they would have more information on the keyboards on or around February 22. Hopefully they'll be shipping not long after that.

Visor Disappoints on Win 2000 USB drivers

With the recent release of Windows 2000, many Visor users thought their USB prayers would finally be answered. Not so. Many people have been using beta versions of Windows 2000 for over a year, and have had the final code for some time, however Visor users have not been able to use their USB cradles with Windows 2000 for lack of a driver. Handspring Technical Support had been replying to Visor users with cryptic emails, sometimes saying that USB drivers would be available soon, sometimes referring to an ongoing beta test, sometimes actually stating that USB drivers would be available on February 17th along with the release of Windows 2000. After what I am sure must have been a deluge of emails begin for the drivers on the 17th, Handspring posted the following to their website:

Palm IIIc review

The Japanese Palm news site Palmfan.com has a scan of a Palm IIIc review from a magazine issue of the UK magazine PC Pro. According to the review the IIIc is using a TFT screen, the 20mhz Dragonball EZ processor and has 8 megs of RAM and 2 megs of Flash. It also utilizes a rechargeable Lithium ion rechargeable battery and is slightly taller and heavier than a standard P3. The Palm IIIc is the smallest and lightest color device on the market and earned a spot on the reviewers "A list."
