There's a great
article on
ComputerWorld that proclaims:
"Like it or not, the Palm operating system and (perhaps) Handspring's add-in slot are rapidly becoming corporate standards IT will have to support."
They also describe how the Palm platform has succeeded where
Windows CE and DEC's Alpha chip had not.

In
part 2 of Mike Cane's Internet report he speculated on the possibility of a Linux Springboard module for the Visor. Hawkins let slip that "a Springboard module can be used to override the PalmOS within the Visor". This goes along well with Linus Torvald's, the founding father of
Linux, comments that the Handheld market will be able to use Linux in
the not-too-distant future. What does all of this mean?
Read this exclusive article on the possibility of alternative OS's on your Visor.

ZDNet is running an
article on Palm Computing's efforts to expand into the corporate market and extend their name to applications and peripherals.
CNN declares that Palm users are boring. The
Visor Insider is reporting that the first batch of Visors are on their way. And finally
The Register is spreading rumors that 3com might take a stake in
Symbian.

Wired is running an
article on HandSpring at Internet World.
The article praises the Visor for it's mass apeal, price and functionality. There's some interesting color commentary by
Dan Royea, "Visor is going to kick ass, ...and put Windows CE out of business." I'll also have an update from Mike Cane posted this afternoon , stay tuned.

ZDNet makes a good point in
this article about the changing PDA market. The Visor has raised the expectations of loyal Palm users and the Compaq Aero is the most serious CE palm competitor to date. And I hear from Internet World that even
TRG has a new Compact Flash compatible Palm in the works. Can Palm still compete or should they do what they do best and stick to the OS?

While not directly related to the Palm or Visor, Palm users may be interested to hear that Phillips is suspending production of its Nino 300 and Nino 500 families of WindowsCE palmtops. Phillips blamed the Nino's failure on a "much smaller market than expected." A Microsoft official is quoted as saying that he doesn't believe Phillips departure means bad things for CE in general. C|Net has more coverage of the story
here.

Ebay.com not to be outdone by
Amazon's new app, has created an
Ebay PQA. You can now search, buy, sell and bid wirelessly with a Palm VII. This must be bliss for any auction addicts out there.
