Voice Recoder now enabled!!

Voice recording works pretty well now on MovieRec 1.12 (infinityball.com)! Also, seems to work with Audiost DVR! The mail client is also pretty cool! ;)

Updated PIM apps?

stareja @ 5/13/2004 11:10:43 PM #
I haven't stretched the limits of the new ROM, but I am a bit dissapointed that the new PIM apps aren't present with this upgrade.

I do like that I can now use the latest version of MovieRec, though!

I would expect, if ever, an update sometime around Sept/Oct (possibly earlier, like in late summer) to update all of the older Treo 600s to the new PIMs. If PLMO's feeling generous, then they may update T|C and T|T2 PIMs as well. I'd also like to see the T3 upgraded to 5.2.8 like the new Zires have.

PalmOne could garner a lot of support from the community if they could make a solid commitment that each new Treo and ever future Tungsten model (in order to further differentiate it from the Zire line) will be guaranteed at least one ROM update in its lifetime to update the OS & built-in apps. You NEVER see support claims like that from many manufacturers nowadays and it would help keep POS users from migrating to (at best) Sony or Tapwave and at worst, defecting to the PPC camp.

Voice recording?

So does the Treo 600 support voice record via the SndStream functions? Is there a voice recording button on the phone?

There is no voice recording software on the Treo600 and no button dedicated to voice record. However, there is 3rd party software that will, with this update, allow you to do voice recording. This also enables MovieRec to record sound on the Sprint Treo600.

With the Audacity Digital Voice Recorder Personal or Professional Versions you can launch the application with a hardware button and then control the record and playback with the navigation pad. Very full featured applications. The Professional is targeted to doctors and lawyers etc. using it for dictation. Web site is www.audacityaudio.com

Just updated my Treo 600

The SMS is finally working in the Chicago area. So far I was able to send SMS to AT&T and T-Mobile users (other then Sprint that is).

Trouble?

bgoldsm @ 5/17/2004 6:15:33 PM #
I have made 3 attempts to install the latest update...each time my Treo 600 goes into a soft reset loop which only a hard reset can save...Thoughts?

There's a lengthy thread on the treocentral discussion forums about this.

The general concensus is, you have to disable all 3rd party tools (treo butler, allero, etc) do a full backup (most recommend backupman) and follow the directions to the "T".

Treo 600 question

beneden @ 5/18/2004 3:19:08 AM #
Hi,

I have a question for Treo owners:

What happens when you, say, synchronize (or backup to SD card) and get a phone call at the same time?

Thanks,

Ben
