Cellphone/GPS Springboard Under Development

blue impact AG is in the process of developing the TellMan, a dual-band GSM receiver and a miniaturized GPS navigation module for the Visor.  It will come in four different versions. Two will be for the U.S. market, one with a GSM phone and the other a CDMA phone. Both will have a GPS receiver with 8 MB of memory. The other two are targeted at the European market. Both of these have GSM phones, one has a GPS receiver and the other with 8 MB memory. No prices or projected release dates are available now.

on display at Systems 2000

ardiri @ 11/9/2000 10:26:15 AM #
i am currently in Munich, at the Systems 2000 "fair", and i personally got too mess around with this little device (heck, i even managed to crash it :P) - and before you start a flame war, no virus was involved :)

the device looks promising, however it is HUGE. it is not easy to remove the visor from the add on component (kinda need clamps + strength). the demo guys had a lot of problems explaining how they implemented the interaction (hehe, i had to ask - little did they know i was a developer). it also allows you to use your visor as a phone (and, i tested it, speech + listening is possible) however it reminds of me the Qualcomm pdQ (brick). lets hope they work on this before they release it. size DOES matter.

Did they say anything about price or when it will be available? Their Web site sure doesn't.

dont quote me on this, but.. packaged together with a Handspring Visor Deluxe and it will cost around 2200DM (German Marks). that would be around $963 price range (based on CNN travel exchange convertor). i was not that impressed to be honest. otherwise i would have photo's and a detailed report for you :)) however, $950-$1000 US for this? its quote expensive.. if they bundled it with a Prism, i would feel different :)

PS: for some stupid reason, it wont realized i am logged on, so.. AC posting :))
