Palm Offers Patriotic Colored Special Edition m505s
The Palm Online Store is now selling 2 new special edition m505 colors. The new units have the same specs as the metallic silver m505 but in 2 new casing colors. In a sign of the times, the colors are named Patriot Blue and American Cranberry.
The new models are available only at the Palm Store, for a unspecified limited time. They are priced at $399.
Update: Palm has changed the names of these models. They are now simply called Cranberry and Blue.
On a related note, all orders at the Palm Store over $100 ship for free through December 31st.
Thanks to palm_pilot_guy for the heads up.

RE: Great Job Palm!
New colors? Patriotic colors?
This "If they were being "Patriotic" it would be accompanied by a big drop in price or portion being donated to help the victims in NYC." hits the nail right on the head.
It's quite sickening really.

HAH. What a waste. Handspring donated deluxes/platinums and visorphones /w service. Thats patriotism!
Price gouging helps nobody.
RE: Great Job Palm!
There are those out there (like the Claudia Greeenish.) that just like a bit of color splash on the unit. If they are going to buy a unit already why not get it a bit more personal.
Palm isn't saying this is some great new thing, just more personal... seems to have worked for Apple didn't it. Now we see all the other computer builders out there following suit. What is interesting is the PocketPC Casio (I think it was Casio, sorry.) tried colors and did not do as well as the Palm limited addition did.
The major item for all of us here, that are real 'users' is that if this is what it takes to get someone to buy a unit, then more power to Palm. Gets more units on the street, Palm makes more money to build cool new devices like we want, software developers have more customers to sell to and we all have a stronger future.

It's disgusting that your idea of patriotism is a discount off the price of something.
RE: Great Job Palm!
Schiffer, Jordan, Patriotic? PLEASE !!!
Help the industry, the economy and the nation with innovations, not with hypocrite attitudes.
Now we know why they are looking for new management, they don't have any now.

Palm did their bit after June 12 by providing wireless handhelds and other assistance.
If you want to kick those who profit from War, go after the big defense contractors and their friends in Washington, but gimme a break here.....

Ah, what a lovely string of messages -- all from people who have the time to rant but not the IQ -- or courtesy -- to *register*.
RE: Is it against the board rules to post anonymously?
Your pseudonym of 'mikecane' or whatever means absolutely zilch to me. Just have your say like everyone else and keep things civil.
RE: Great Job Palm!
You're the leader in no IQ. This is my real name and I've had articles published here. Now go take your medication.
RE: Great Job Palm!
Do any of you have a clue that the Claudia Schiffer and Michael Jordan Palns were created by PTN Media, not Palm? They came up with the idea, bought the hardware from Palm, and are now marketing and selling them. The only involvement Palm has is making money. While that's not innovative, its what companies are supposed to do. So the next time someone wants to complain about one of these, stuff it.
RE: Great Job Palm!
Isn't the Jordan m505 black like the IBM WorkPad? I'd only seen the box for it at PC Expo earlier in the year and I recall it not having the m505 silver color, but a different one that made it very attractive.

Mike Cane - get a life. You are extremely annoying
Do you think anyone is impressed that you have written any "articles" for this site? I expect the editors here will think twice about letting you write here again, no matter how desperate they are for help.

RE: Great Job Palm!
You're nothing to me. You might as well be anonymous. I don't what you look like, where you live, or how many gerbils you pack, so your clearly courageous act of "using your real name" is pointless.

After I checked it out I saw it was not, sorry.

I like the colors, but I just don't like the fact that Palm is using the war to sell more handhelds...

?????????
Why call it patriotic?
All marketing fluff, no substance.
1. Hi-Res Color Screen 320x320 (yes, I know of the Clie)
2. OS 5 (or an OS with DRAMATIC improvements over 1.0)
3. XScale/Strong ARM CPU
4. 32+ MB RAM Built-In
5. Built-in Wireless Capability
6. Maintain relatively slim form-factor.
These are the top five priorities that Palm should focus on getting done soon. Better late than never.
How come CPQ can get it all done and Palm can't?
What's small enough to fit in your pocket but has enough storage capacity to manage your whole life? Give up? It's the Compaq iPAQ 3835 Pocket PC. With 64MB RAM and an SD Memory Slot, the iPAQ can store all of your appointments, to-do lists and business contacts with ease while the 206MHz Intel® StrongARM processor accesses them quickly. Spreadsheet, word processing and email functions make the iPAQ truly handy and handwriting recognition and voice commands round out the package. 240 x 320 Color-Reflective TFT Liquid Crystal Display for Indoor and Outdoor Viewing (65,536 Colors).

Great Job Palm!
Many customers are likely to look at this move as Palm trying to profit over the current situation as opposed to Palm trying to be innovative and actually being "Patriotic". If they were being "Patriotic" it would be accompanied by a big drop in price or portion being donated to help the victims in NYC. No such "Patriotism" here. Simply, a desparate effort to improve sales.
Obviously, innovation has been lacking for quite sometime. This was confirmed at this year's COMDEX. No new products from Palm. Palm's stock was riding off of Handspring's TREO Innovation.
I sure hope this isn't the future of Palm's management decisions. Why not actually add new features rather than new colors!
