Palm Adds to Dominant Lead in Europe
According to GfK, an international market research firm, 42% of the handhelds sold in Europe were made by Palm, Inc. during the months of December though January, the most recent results available. Its nearest competitor, Compaq, had just 11.2 %.
Palm's lead in Europe is increasing. During the two months before that, Palm-branded handhelds had 37.6% of the market. This is also an increase of 1.6 points over the same period a year ago.
In France, Palm's market share was 47.7%. In Germany, the company had 49%. Palm had 38.4% of the Italian handheld market. Palm's share in the Netherlands grew significantly to reach 37.8%. In the UK, Palm had a 43.5% market share. In each of these countries, Palm is the market leader.
"For the last six months, the GfK results have shown our European market position steadily growing," said Laurence Clavere, Palm's senior director of Marketing EMEA. "These results reinforce that Palm is providing its customers the right solutions for their needs."
