GooSync Now Included with Classic
Classic from MotionApps, the Palm OS Garnet emulator for webOS, will now include the GooSync Palm OS client. GooSync provides over-the-air synchronization tools for Google calendars, contacts and tasks. GooSync ties in with original Palm OS PIM applications and provides another means for moving classic Palm OS data into the cloud with a clever on device solution.
"It's great news for users of Classic. Being able to Sync with Google straight out of the box is an invaluable business service," says Chris Jukes, CEO of Toffa and GooSync. "So while GooSync's Lite service enables you to sync the default Google Calendar, the Premium service lets you sync multiple calendars up to 365 days in advance, contacts directly with Gmail, and tasks to the GooSync inbuilt tasks application. Autosync and multiple device support are just some of the numerous features supported through GooSync."
GooSync works on any device that is SyncML compliant, including the most recent Nokia, Sony Ericsson and Motorola phones. It is also compatible with Windows Pocket PC, Windows SmartPhone, Palm OS, Treo, BlackBerry and Apple iPhone by installing a SyncML client.
The formerly free app now offers a few subscription options to use the service.

Of course, since the full version of Classic isn't free, anyone who installs it must need to run a specific application fairly urgently.

I was referring to why someone would want to run Classic, not why someone would want to run Classic to run original Palm OS PIM applications.
Is the Ferrari with no wheels in your example WebOS, or the PIM applications within it? If your issue is that people shouldn't have to run Classic to get decent PIM applications, that's understandable (although I think Synergy makes the comparison a bit more complicated than that). If your issue is that WebOS itself is a Ferrari with no wheels, compared to Garnet, you obviously don't remember Garnet very well.
Are the PIM applications in WebOS weak right now (leaving aside Synergy)? Sure. The calendar app is underpowered in various ways, and the Notes app needs a lot of work. But there's a danger in looking at Garnet with rose-colored glasses. The PIM applications on the TX or the Centro weren't the same ones that were on earlier Palm models. And even they weren't so great. That's why people installed things like Datebk, Agendus, and other third party solutions. And so far, even though it's at the early stages, it looks like some developers are picking up the gauntlet. Agenda, Quick Contacts, and Quick Event are all attempts to enhance the PIM abilities of Web OS. That kind of work is something that Palm has counted on with its devices from day one.

Right now the biggest problem with the Pre's Memo and Tasks applications is a lack of Synergy. If I could sync my Pre's memos to a cloud based service, suddenly most of its flaws fade into the background. The same thing goes double for the Tasks application.

So when everybody makes there services free, GooSync stops the free service and lets people pay for it.
