i was thrilled when i bought my m505. it was a color palm v - just what i wanted. the bonus was the sd slot and more RAM. it was april 2001 - a few months before 9/11.

please stop wishing for a new PDA. it's tantamount to wishing for a new typewriter, buggy whip, VHS or 8-Track Player.

That seems to have come from Apple nowadays. I think Palm knows this and i believe them when they Colligan said "enough modifications... we are going to retake the mantle".

ITouch is want TX2 should of been or while be. Hardware (glass screen, brighter screen, thinner, finger friendly) and Operating System (Linux).

Maybe with the Palm Nova things may change, Palm may be posponding because of Nova. Having Nova which is Linux is the right way to good, hacker friendly. We will be able to run apps based on linux, apps from ALP, OpenMoko, Android and any other Linux, we will just compile. Don't forget Java is way better on the Linux platform also. Theres Wine to run Window apps, theres virtualization to run other systems. Oh and ALP Garnet Emulator which we can still run our old Palm apps.

Now that's hittin' the nail on the head. I'm with Rock on this one. Shut up man! You're illustration made me a little sick at the stomach. That was the year 2000 and the tech path to bring what you suggest seems so simple today.

Yes, I do want what you suggest. Unfortunately Apple, not Palm seems to be the only ones who think so. Gosh, I haven't even thot about G1 in a loooong time. I remember reading the little manuallette on the keystrokes and it was like baaaam, a few days and I was off and running. Worked flawlessly on my IIIe Special Edition Clear, then my SPT-1500, then my Vx. When I got the m505 about 6-12 months after release I noticed that G1 was a little less accurate than all the others. I had no idea that it was the tip of the "zen of Palm" iceberg.

The 505 had killer battery life with that reflective (not-transflective) screen. If you'll remember that backlight defaulted to off so the screen would use reflected room / outdoor lighting to view. In dim situations the backlight took over if needed

-BT 1.2 & 802.11g. Full BT DUN support for GSM & CDMA phones with regularly updated PhoneLink software. Palm would NOT have to worry about this thing cannibalizing Treo sales! Do you think Nokia's really lost sleep over the N-series Internet Tablets stealing their dumbphone sales?
-Graffiti 1. Or, at worst, G2 standard and G1 available as a fully-supported $20 downloadable plug-in from Palm
-Intelligent backlight sensor that could dim/brighten the lamp as necessary
-312mhz CPU (for batttery saving purposes, of course)

-Strong software suits (ala Centro)
-Athena connector or the new proprietary connector coming on the 800w

The classic Ideo-designed Palm V was (and is) a true icon of technology. But the m500 refined the Palm V and improved upon it in every way. It's a true pity that Palm didn't follow a 3-pronged approach in the OS5 era, going with their chunky but robust T|T slider line in the midrange, the Zires for the low-end, and a "Veld" (hah!) line based on the Palm V/m500 FF for their high end.

I keep reading the business news looking for Palm going into bankruptcy or Palm being sold to xxx company.

I don't believe they are putting false times out... palm is in trouble. Where is the 800wx so many people are talking about? Knowing my luck it will be released today and I'll look like an idiot, but it has been a slow roll on that device... maybe now waiting on windows 6.1... or so the pundits say.

I can't tell the future, but palm's does not look too promising. If goolge hits a home run with android, I think we can hang it up for palm. One "stable" android phone with the "look" of a palm, people will flock to it. One windows OS device with the "look" of a palm, people will flock to it.

Palm makes a nice phone because we don't have many choices... I hate sliders and I don't care for a phone that does not have a touchscreen. That leaves me stuck with my palm device.

Vote for John Kerry... best man for the job.
