Full List Of Compatible Palm Pre Carriers?

GlobeFurther to yesterday's story regarding the SIM-unlocked German Palm Pre's problems with international carrier settings, your correspondent decided to go digging into webOS' guts to see for himself which networks the phone should work with. Lo and behold, contained within the /usr/lib/luna/CarrierNetworkSettings.db3 database is a comprehensive listing of global cellular network settings.

We've posted the full list of all 240 carriers (excluding duplicate entries) named in the database in the PalmInfocenter Forums. If you've imported a German Pre and had problems, let us know - is your carrier on this list? And if so, the question then becomes: what will it take to enable these settings?

So, Czech SIM cards appear to work

I collaborated with a Czech traveller who's in Germany via IRC. He was able to successfully send me an MMS with a Czech SIM card (with roaming disabled), so we can add Vodafone.cz to the list of "confirmed working" carriers. :)

carrier being on the list doesn't mean anything :-(

Swisscom's on the list - however, Swisscom SIMs aren't supported by the German Pre (FW 1.1.3). I can confirm that myself - and know of two more people who made the same experience. Data connections aren't possible with Swisscom SIMs at the moment, so you can't activate, either.

Orange (Switzerland) SIMs fully work, though (activation, data, voice, all works perfectly fine).

Hmmm. That sucks, dakis.

This is the full list for Swisscom from the DataConnectionSettings table (from the same database:

APN: gprs.swisscom.ch
APNID: 68
Username and password are both blank
SupportedService: 2
Service Default: 2 (I have no idea what either of those mean)
Region name: Swisscom WEB

Is that all correct?

gprs.swisscom.ch and blank login + password is what I have on my HTC Hero, so that sounds correct.

I have no idea what the rest means, though (APNID etc.)

Weird. More and more this is sounding like a *bug* on Palm's end rather than any nefarious lockout...

I agree - apparently some providers aren't detected correctly.
It's just interesting that O2 and Palm apparently knew about that before the release. After all, O2 has a message in their FAQs for the Pre saying that the Pre doesn't work with foreign SIMs and that Palm's working on an upgrade.
