Handmark Names New CEO

Handmark has announced today that Paul Reddick has been named chief executive officer of the company. Reddick, a former vice president of Sprint Nextel, currently serves as a member of the Handmark board of directors. Reddick succeeds the mobile software company's founding CEO August Grasis III, who becomes chairman of the board.

Palm Centro Now Available for Pre-Order

Palm CentroThe Palm.com online store is now taking pre-orders for the Palm Centro smartphone on Sprint. The Centro starts at $99 after rebates and contractual discounts with Sprint plans. Customers will also receive free shipping and a free vehicle power charger (a $29.99 value).

As you're probably aware of by now, the Centro will be exclusive through Sprint in the United States for 90 days and is available in two colors, onyx black and ruby red. Palm Centro Announced With Sprint

Palm CentroPalm and Sprint have officially announced the Palm Centro smartphone at a press conference at the DigitalLife show in New York City. The Centro is a new brand of smartphones for Palm debuting at a $99 price point and targeting a younger audience and the larger feature phone market segment.

Centro will be exclusive through Sprint in the United States for 90 days and is available in onyx black or ruby red. The Centro features a new design and is the smallest and lightest Palm OS phone to date. Pre-orders will begin from Palm tomorrow, with expected availability on October 14.

First Palm Centro Details Emerge

Sprint has posted a new promotional site for the Palm Centro ahead of today's official press conference. Sprint's promo page reveals the Centro will be available exclusively from Sprint on October 14th. The "worlds smallest Palm device" will be available in black and red for $99, after a $100 mail in rebate on a new 2-year contract.

Sling Media Acquired by EchoStar

Sling Player Palm OSEchoStar Communications announced today that it has agreed to acquire Sling Media, Inc. EchoStar, through its DISH Network, is the third largest pay-TV provider in the United States. The transaction values Sling Media at approximately $380 million and is payable in cash and EchoStar options. The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions, and is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2007.

Airtel Now Offering the Treo 750 in India

Palm today has announced the availability of the Treo 750 smartphone in India on the Airtel network. It is the first Treo smartphone to be introduced on Airtel's extensive network and also the first Windows Mobile based Treo smartphone to be launched in India. The Treo 750 combines Palm's one-of-a-kind user experience with a multifeatured mobile phone with email, messaging, web browsing and organization software all in a compact design. It's capable of 3G for fast data access and comes with Microsoft's Direct Push Technology for Windows Mobile.

Resco Explorer for Palm OS Updated

Explorer is a powerful and feature rich file system browser, image viewer, launcher, zipper, backup utility and FTP/LAN browser. New in this version is support for secure FTP logins and active mode, AES encryption for zipped files, https downloads, time synchronization improved favorites and much more.

Resco Explorer 2007 v.3.20.1 is available now with a free trial period. It regularly sells for $29.95, but is currently on sale for $24.95 for a limited time.

Missing Sync for Palm OS Updated

Mark/Space has released an update to the Missing Sync for Palm OS, the company's software that connects and synchronizes devices running Palm OS with Mac OS X computers. Version 6.0.1 is a minor release with a number of bug-fixes and corrections. It includes support for the latest devices, synchronization fixes, improved photo sync, better handling of Palm OS category limitations and other PIM related fixes (specific details can be found here).

The Missing Sync for Palm OS can be purchased from Mark/Space for $39.95. A free trial version is included. The software requires Mac OS X 10.4.9 or later and a Palm OS device running either version 4 or 5 of the operating system.
