iambic has released TinySheet Version 5, a stand-alone, full-featured spreadsheet program for Palm OS handhelds and smartphones that delivers Excel-like functionality.

RNS:: has released an interesting new program for the Palm OS. WiFiTalkie lets you use your handheld like a Walkie-Talkie 2-way radio. WiFiTalkie uses VoIP (Voice over IP) technology to broadcast audio data. The program supports full duplex mode, which lets you broadcast and receive voice simultaneously. It also offers several additional functions (such as "push-to-talk switch", "noise if no transmission", "beep after each transmission") which make it truly resemble a genuine walkietalkie.

It requires two or more compatible devices with a broadband network connection. The handhelds must have WiFi connections. Most Palm OS 5+ Sony Clie models are supported, as well as the LifeDrive and Palm TX (receive only - no microphone) other Palm branded models may work with the Palm Wi-Fi SD card. WiFiTalkie v1.0 comes with a free trial and costs $14.95 for the full version.

Palm today announced it has forged a new relationship with Vodafone targeted at expanding the adoption of wireless push email in Europe. Palm has officially announced that a new Windows Mobile powered 3G/UTMS Treo will debut on Vodafone in Europe before the end of the year. However, Palm has not released any other specs or pictures at this time.

Midwest Sport Aviation LLC, has released a new Palm handheld based GPS solution for both the Sport Pilot and the general aviation market. The AeroPalm Aviation GPS is a flight planning and moving map solution that runs on Palm OS devices.

M:Metrics, a mobile market analysis company, has issues a research report on a recently conducted survey of smartphone users. The firm found that while smartphone owners comprise a small percentage of the overall population of mobile phone users, large percentages of smart-phone users are consuming mobile content. Contrary to popular belief, those carrying these powerful devices are not using them exclusively for productivity applications, but are also using them to view mobile video, play mobile games and listen to mobile music in addition to using them for personal e-mail and wireless Web access.

Wagware Systems, and Brainyware,have released the latest version of CASL. CASL (Compact Application Solution Language) is a development environment which allows developers to create applications for Palm OS, Pocket PC / Windows Mobile and Windows platforms. CASL is billed as the ideal RAPID Application development environment for PDA developers that want to create compact applications on multiple platforms quickly, using a singe code base.

Palm has discretely released a stand-alone version of VersaMail 3.5 for all OS 5 Palm devices. Both Windows and Mac OS installers are now available for download from PalmGear.

Tech Center Labs is now shipping their Multiconnector Microphone module. It is primarily designed with the Palm TX in mind, so that it can take advantage of 3rd party voice recording apps and VoIP software over WiFi. The Mic Module sells for $14.95. The company also has an interesting LED Color lights multi-connector add on that will preform a multi-colored light show to your digital music.

Hack&Dev has released a new free screen whine treatment utility for Palm handhelds. Over time, some Palm models can develop a rather annoying, high-pitched hum when turned on. Most of the time this noise is unnoticeable, but some devices can get quite loud.

According to Palm support, this is caused by the transflective TFT display amplifying the vibration of electronic components within the device. Palm claims this is "normal and expected behavior", and does not provide repairs for products exhibiting the buzz.
