In late December, a judge ruled against Palm and 3Com, saying that Graffiti does infringe on a patent Xerox holds on a handwriting recognition method, called Unistrokes. Though the case is being appealed, the two companies have been required to put down a $50 million bond. Should Xerox win that appeal, the bond "will ensure that Xerox is able to collect at least some, if not all, of the damages it will suffer as a result of 3Com's infringement during the appeal period," wrote Judge Michael Telesca, U.S. District Court for the Western District of New York.

Deity3D. This is the first official release of the game, though screenshots appeared on its website in late 2001.
The demo is monochrome but plays on handhelds with color screens. It's a fully-playable single level of the game. Mr. Ardiri said future versions of Deity3D will support add-on levels and color.

Update: Much more information on the m515 and m130 is now available
here.
With the rumored release date of the m515 and m130 getting closer, information on these two models continues to leak out. As often happens in these cases, some of these rumors are contradictory.
A Staples employee who has provided very reliable info in the past has a sent in a scan of a Staples' ad flier scheduled for the week of March 10 - 16 that lists both these new models. The ad has the m130 listed for $280 and shows a device that looks just like the images that appeared on PDAGeek several weeks ago.

Sony has dropped the price of the
PEG-T415 from $250 to $220. This is the second price drop on this device since it was released in late November. In January, Sony dropped its price from $300. As always, Sony gave no reasons for this and has a company policy to never call attention to price cuts.
This double price drop on a model this recently released is almost unprecedented. When a company cuts the price on a handheld, it's frequently because sales are weak and the company may be hoping to spur demand. That Sony has already had to do this twice for the T415 really isn't a good sign.

Handspring seems to be moving out of the Japanese market. It closed its online store there at the end of 2001. It has never offered the Visor Neo or the Pro in Japan and the models that are available are at firesale prices. For example, the Edge and Prism are selling for 19,800 yen, which is about $150, down from 49,000 yen, or $370, their prices just a few months ago.

When a new handheld comes out, it usually takes a while before a good collection of accessories is available and Sony's T series is no exception. Several cases will be released in the next few weeks.
InnoPocket is currently working on a hardcase for the T615C that it plans to release next month. It's an aluminium case that opens to the side that has slots to allow access to the Memory Stick slot, IR port, and Jog Dial. It will be available on March 15 for $30.
