It seems likely that Sony is developing an updated version of the N710C that will be called the N760C. So far there are no indications that it will have any ground-breaking new features, simply being the N710C with OS 4.0 pre-installed. This will give its hi-res screen 16-bit color, rather than the N710C's 8-bit color.
A listing for the N760C appeared briefly last week on rcseshop, a webstore. No details on the handheld were given before it was removed.

In an interview with
ComputerWorld, Michael Mace, Palm's chief competitive officer, said he doesn't see the upcoming release of of the next version of the PocketPC OS as much of a threat.
"This sounds like an incremental release of their product, and it's a lot of stuff you can do today in a Palm handheld," he said. "We already have support for 802.xx, and our OS is so simple, our developers don't need a wizard."

Palm continues to strongly support Bluetooth, a short-range wireless protocol, over its rival, 802.11b. Yesterday, they demonstrated how a Palm handheld and Bluetooth card could wirelessly connect to a wireless phone, corporate LAN, and printer.
However, they are aware that Bluetooth has been over-sold and has under-delivered. For at least three years, Bluetooth's backers have promised that "next year" is the year Bluetooth will catch on. This might finally be the year. A good number of Bluetooth-related items are going to hit the market in the next six months but the slowing U.S. economy is almost certainly going to hurt sales of these.

Unless a spokesperson for Handspring was willing to flat out lie through his teeth, Handspring will not be announcing any new handheld models today, as was previously rumored. In an e-mail exchange on Handspring's recent price cuts, Brian Jaquet, a company spokesperson, said, "Sorry to disappoint you, but that is all that is being announced today."

One of the mostly widely used Palm applications is AvantGo, which stores content from the Internet onto user's handhelds. Depending on how many channels are subscribed to, this can take up a large amount of RAM and AvantGo has not yet been re-written to allow it to store its data files on an expansion card.
However, PowerRUN has an undocumented feature that allows AvantGo's databases to be stored on external cards.

Like the previous one, the the top stories last week were all rumors. Some pictures of the not yet announced
m125 were released, there was talk of
Handspring announcing two new models, and we gave a sneak peak at two future Palm
wireless handhelds.
The biggest hard news story of the week was the announcement that Palm was buying Be Inc. On the same day came news that the man at Palm responsible for the Palm OS was resigning. Handspring ended the week by dropping prices on almost all its handhelds.
