Along with introducing several new products today, Palm has also reduced their suggested prices on some of its existing handhelds. The Palm IIIc and the Palm VII both have been reduced to $399, down from $449. The price remains unchanged for the two remaining models: Palm Vx at $399 and the Palm IIIxe at $249.
These are Palm's two slowest moving handhelds and many people have complained that they were over-priced. Hopefully this will help alleviate both of these problems.

On Monday, Palm is expected to launch two new products: the entry level
M100 and the updated Palm VIIx. Palm also sent out an Insync newsletter confirming that they will sell a limited edition Palm Vx in a choice of 2 new colors, millennium blue and champagne. They will be sold exclusively at the
Palm Online store. The M100 is expected to be aimed primarily at the education market, which Palm has identified as a potential growth area. What remains to be seen is if Palm can keep up with demand for the new models in the middle of the industry wide
parts shortage. There's more on the new Palms at
this cnet article.

Palm's recent
OS 3.5.2 patch fixes the long
rumored memory leak bug and a few other low level system issues as confirmed by this new
Knowledge Base article. Also in today's news, cnet is
reporting, "Next-generation Palms based on ARM chips would likely support higher-resolution color screens and more data-intensive applications, including wireless services. Palm has said that it is focusing almost exclusively on bringing wireless services to its devices in the next year." Though not confirmed, I would be on the lookout for the new
M100 and VIIx to be out on Monday the 7th.

Early this morning we made the move to a new more stable and powerful web server. The new machine is a Windows 2000 advanced server running off dual 600mhz P-III's with 384 Megs of ram. Please do all you can to pound the site (i. e. hit refresh a few times, tell all your friends about us, etc...) The new server should be more reliable and stable and those pesky ASP 0115 errors that occasionally brought down the site should be a thing of the past. If any bugs do come up please report them with a detailed message via our
feedback form. Thanks for reading the PalmInfocenter and have a great day.

Allow me to introduce The Internet Only Palm Users Group!
This Palm Users Group is for those individuals who:
a. Don't have a local PUG in their area.
b. Don't have the time to attend regular meetings.
c. Still want to have the benefits of PUG membership.
Our Web site is located at
http://www.interpug.com/iopug/, but it's still in the early stages of development.
Eventually, I would like to see the group have semi-regular "virtual meetings" via IRC or some other chat type software, but for the time being, members may engage in discussion via the IOPUG mailing list. To sign up for the mailing list, members need only to send a blank email to: (
iopug-subscribe@egroups.com)
