Rumor: Treo 650 Launch Details Revealed
A new article on the palmOne Treo 650 Smartphone article has been published on InternetNews.com. The piece extensively quotes a palmOne marketing director who confirms previous details and reveals most of the upcoming features of the new Treo 650.
The article on InternetNews.com quote's palmOne's director of Product Marketing, Greg Shirai. He calls the Treo 650 a "better Treo 600" and the piece goes on to confirm a number of previously known details.
The new device retains the Treo form factor, with a color screen atop a mini QWERTY keyboard. The display is 320 by 320 pixels for greater clarity and resolution. The keyboard has been arranged in a slight "smile," allowing for slightly larger and flatter keys with larger symbols on them. [...] The 650 has a removable battery, so that users can pack two batteries instead of the charger. More important, Flash memory storage not only accommodates battery switching, but ensures that data won't be lost if the charge is.
It will be released in two flavors: a CDMA/1XRTT dual-band radio that can be used over the Verizon and Sprint networks, and a quad-band GSM with EDGE support, the GPRS protocols used by AT&T, Cingular and T-Mobile. Shirai said that carriers should announce the availability of the 650 in the next few weeks, with the product actually available before the holiday shopping season.
The Treo 650 will likely officially debut at the CTIA Wireless IT show next week in San Francisco. Ed Colligan, President of palmOne, will be delivering the opening keynote on October 25th.
According to current speculation, the Treo 650 will retain the same basic form factor and layout with a number of refinements and improvements. The most notable is a high resolution 320x320 pixel 65k color TFT display and integrated Bluetooth wireless. It wil have 32MB of RAM and run a 312 MHz Intel ARM processor. It also includes a new 1.3 Megapixel camera with digital zoom and video capture, dedicated answer and disconnect phone buttons and a SD/MMC expansion slot with SD I/O.
Leaked photos confirm the Treo 650 will run Palm OS Garnet v5.4.5 and will have 20MB free of usable RAM. The 650 also adds a new larger capacity removable 1900 mAH Li-ion battery. Pictures of the Treo 650 can be found here.
