Hmmm.....

Now, Tapwave has been around for a couple of years and has Wifi support for a wide range of Wifi cards. Palm has been around for ages and only (or from a Palm exec's point of view Exclusively) supports the official Wifi card. As soon as Tapwave releases a non-gaming device, Palm are going to be in quite a large amount of s*** if they continue pushing their "our own products only" policy. Compatibility, people, is the way of the future...

On a seperate note - losing Mac support - bad move.

P1 says your not interested in stuff like that.

Yup, I can see this as a nice ace in the hole here. With the wide screen and good WiFi card support, this has a lot more function now. Woohoo!

Please, someone, get a decent WWW browser for this thing. My 4th and final T3 (don't ask) is already starting to show wear & tear so I will be ready for an upgrade soon. I can "make do" with the Zod formfactor, the rotten stylus and the lack of accessories. I CANNOT, however, make do with the lack of a G1 hack or a decent web browser.

P1, PS or someone needs to get off their arses and release Web Pro 3.5 (if not Blazer 4) for existing T3/T|C owners as well as the Zod faithful.

I just had this vision of whipping out a Zod with a 2gb SD in one slot and a 256mb + wi-fi Sandisk in the other. BLISS! Well, truth be told, genuine bliss would be a shortie wi-fi card that didn't protrude from the case but you can't have everything. And yes, I could live with the substantial hit the wi-fi range would take. That's why BT is the perfect backup connection method.

Web Pro 3.5, while not officially endorsed, can be loaded on a T3 and works. The only bugs I have seen I don't believe are specific to 3.5 running on a T3. There are pretty severe bugs w/ bookmarks, scrollbars, and cookies... none of which I've been able to resolve.

As a result, even WebPro 3.5 is just short of useless. It's pathetic that it's the best available.

This is not the place to go into detail about support for WebPro 3.5. If someone can direct me to the proper place, I'd love to meet with other minds on this. So far everywhere I've posted has not resuted in any response :(

Thanks

Hey, no need to preach to me on that one. I've been running WP 3.5 for quit a while now on my T3 and it does indeed work great. Blazer 4 is indeed a no-go but WP 3.5 seems to be at least an incremental step forward from WP 3.0x and a good deal faster as well. 3.5 also works on the T|C as well. As you may or may not know, P1 is even offering a free CD after mail-in coupon to new T|C owners that has full version of DTG 6, WP 3.5, VM 2.6 and a couple other nice apps. Too bad they aren't offering these for free or for minimal cost to existing owners. Perhaps we should continue this discussion over on the PIC "Software" forums (they're in need of some life!).

Anyhoo, the point of my post was for someone to release a decent web browser for the ZODIACs, not the T3.

Does anyone have any firsthand reports on how VersaMail (all flavors) works on the Zod? I know it WORKS but how buggy is it and are there any glaring flaws?

Now all we need is a permanent price drop (not a bundle, a price drop on the core system). Zod2 $250 to $300 would still be killer if they can just get more software cranked out for that thing.

Already happened hkklife. I just bought a gleaming new Z2 for thr princely sum of £149.99 (approx $300) from PC world in the UK. Dual SD slots means twice the memory goodness of a T3 and half the headaches.

I don't know about G1 but you could always get a keyboard - I'm told the official P1 keyboard plays nicely with it.

Beta

Getting a memory chunk error fatality. It works faster, until the error though. Anyone else have this problem? App conflict? Smokin' upgrade. Very fast connection. I could see at least 5 networks on ever floor of my bldg, half of them unsecured. Feels like I'm hardwired.

Instantly launching the web browser upon insertion to a turned off handheld is also nice.

I just read that the memory chunk error had nothing to do with the WiFi beta. Sorry to mislead anyone. It was from my new DIA skin.

PalmOne NEEDS to understand that functionality between different brands is a must. From wifi to mac support palmOne is only shooting themselves in the foot.

The world will end in 2006. Just as it was predicted in the bible along with the release of Microsoft Longhorn.... :p

I've just bought a Zodiac

asiayeah @ 3/1/2005 3:54:46 AM # Q
I've just bought a Zodiac recently. In terms of build quality, I've found it superior to palmOne Tungsten series. It has a metallic body with no sliding parts. The Tungsten T/T2/T3's sliders are great, but then show ages when one uses his PDA for more than 1 year.

I am also glad to see that Tapwave is releasing regular software updates and drivers for their devices! This is not a typical move of PDA manufacturers. Very good to customers indeed.

Good for you! My wife has had a Z2 for about 2 years. She's loved it and not had any problems with it at all. She keeps her Bible on there, and a lot of photos and music. She doesn't put a lot of crap on there which causes errors (which doing that does the same thing with nearly every other pda maker as well). She likes the HUGE screen, powerful batteries, etc...

I think that if Tapwave would ever come out with a pda that had had both wifi and BT built in, with dual card slots, their awesome memory, etc.., they would probably be the number one Palm OS pda for a while.

Anyway, congrats, and good luck with your Zod.

Take care.

All good things...

One recommended piece of software is MMplayer with the Zodiac skin. So long, Kinoma!

Has anyone tried....?

Wollombi @ 3/1/2005 7:07:05 PM # Q
Has anyone attempted to use this software to support the Sandisk cards on a Tungsten model (E, T3, or T5)?

Hey, I know it's not probable, but you never know until you make the attempt, right?
