Toshiba Announces 128 MB SD Card
Toshiba America Electronic Components has announced a 128 megabyte Secure Digital (SD) memory card. It is capable of storing up to four hours of music or forty minutes of video. It is not yet available and a price wasn't revealed.
This brings the size of the largest SD card up to parity with the largest Memory Stick. The 128 MB MemStick sells for $150.
"With the introduction of the 128MB SD Memory Card, we are continuing to push the envelope in developing higher density solutions to meet the needs of a broader range of applications requiring greater amounts of secure file storage," said Jackie Traeumer, senior business development manager, Flash Products, at TAEC.
The company plans to introduce a 256MB SD Memory Card in the fourth quarter of 2001.
Toshiba and Sony are currently engaged in a price war in SD cards and MemSticks. Just last week, Sony dropped its prices to below the costs of equivalent SD cards, after Toshiba/Panasonic dropped SD prices in July.
The non-secure version of the SD card, the MMC, is cheaper than SD cards and has many of the same functions but no 128 MB MMC card has yet been announced.
SD card slots can be found on the Palm m500 series, the HandEra 330, and digital cameras, MP3 players, and more.

Just curious, how big is the CF card?

RIP CF
Hey Roofus!
128 mb no good until...
It has been described here before a way to make a combination of 'ms-mount', 'mc-file', and 'power-run' to make the all the apps work well with the card including the horribly slow 'photo-suite' but I tried it out and got mixed results and a lot of mess in the way of errors and orphaned files...
Untill the OS has the features of the above described programs I don't think anyone should waste thier money on a 128 meg card. It takes too much time to use effectively, just get a couple of smaller cards, I think you might be happier.
