PDAapps Discontinues Palm OS Applications

PDAapps has discontinued and stopped selling its line of Palm OS applications which includes the popular VeriChat IM program. PDAapps was acquired by IntelliSync last year, shortly after Nokia purchased IntelliSync.

PDAapps posted a message on their website stating Nokia has discontinued their applications and VeriChat is no longer for sale. VeriChat was the companies most popular application and is also available on Pocket PC devices, Symbian and Blackberry devices.

Freeware

So that the rest of us still have the opportunity to use the well refined software, the developers should make it available as freeware. I wonder if they could do it without Nokia getting pissed at them.

I never found another AIM compatible client for Palm OS that actually worked. Is there one? This is going to make my life on my Treo suck a bit.

are two other good multi-IM apps out there, there may be some more as well.

So? This software wasn't that good anyway IMO. Chatopus is my personal favourite :D

As for the releasing it as freeware - IIRC, it uses a proxy to connect - it doesn't just connect directly to the service. They could, but it wouldn't work.

I got hit today when my subscription expired, and learned there is no way to renew! I discovered that if you manually change the date on your Treo, Verichat will work past the expiration date. I suppose it will work this way until the last subscriptions expire, and then they'll pull the plug.

I tried the Mundu app but it crashes every time. I'm still looking for a good substitute. I hope the fellow who offered to host it is successful, or that someone else models a good program after this one. It is a huge blow -- I had four AIM names and one Yahoo running simultaneously!

I will never do business with Nokia again!

I hate this yearly description... it was the first and last i had purchased. You should try IM+, its much more convenient IMO :-)

I tryied IM+ several times but it does not come even close to Verichat. 1 major issue IMO: sleep hours. Verichat can be set to go to sleep between certain hours while IM+ has to be shut down/reopened manualy.
BTW, is there any IM software for Palm that can run GTalk in background?

I am willing to host the Verichat proxy if I can get some help in hacking the current proxy and the License Code.

Also, just for your info, I am planning to make sure that my corporation does not use Nokia and Intellisys products ever again. We are getting ready to issue an RFP for a technology refresh and I have made it clear to my team that NOKIA is NOT to be invited to respond.

Any luck with this? I don't have a Verichat license, but I'm not happy with any of the other Palm IM clients. I am willing to help out if possible. I am a web developer, but not a palm software developer. I could also contribute to a proxy project.

I've discovered that if you reset the date on your Palm to a date prior to the expiration of your Verichat license, the program works. Unfortunately doing that messes up your calendar and the call log (no calls will be logged since they technically "didn't happen yet"). However, this should give someone a pretty big clue as to how to hack the program -- if you can find a way to reset the date the license expires, you'll be able to run this thing until they finally take the server down. Meanwhile, I've tried Causerie, Toccer, and IM+ (blecch!). Toccer is free; the others are not worth paying for in my opinion. None of them work as well as Verichat.

If I were a hacker I'd do this!
