Genuine Palm OEM Palm Treo Battery on Sale

Treo users preferring to stick with an original Palm-branded battery can now pick up an original 1800mAh one for a great price. PCMicrostore is selling the original Palm OEM battery for $14.95 with free shipping.

This battery also makes for a perfect fit in the Palm OEM Treo cradle's internal charging pocket. While incompatible with the newer slimline Treo 680 & 750 (and likely the rumored 755p) formfactors, this battery does fit the Treo 650, 700w/wx, and 700p.

Treo 755p Burgundy Photo

Treo 755pIn a previous rumor article about the Treo 755p, an internal Spring upcoming releases document showed that the 755p would be available in burgundy and blue housing colors. Last week we saw a leak of the blue model, and this week Gizmodo appears to have a image of the 755p in its burgundy/maroon flavor.

An examination of the device's launcher shows a new IM icon, which would indicate either Sprint is bundling a new instant messaging app with the device or Palm has developed a new IM program itself.

Rumors of a 755p on Sprint have been brewing for some time now. Most previous info on this shows its as the first CDMA/EvDO Treo with an internal antenna with the same Treo 680/750 form-factor. It's expected to be announced sometime in June.

EMI and iTunes To Sell DRM-Free Music

Itunes PalmIn a joint press statement, major music label EMI and Apple Inc. announced today that EMI tracks on the iTunes Music Store will be available without DRM. In addition, the songs will be in a higher-quality format than standard iTunes tracks. This unprecedented and welcome move means that any Palm media player that supports AAC files (including Pocket Tunes, AeroPlayer and Kinoma Player) will now be able play any of EMI's iTunes music.

"We believe that offering consumers the opportunity to buy higher quality tracks and listen to them on the device or platform of their choice will boost sales of digital music," said EMI CEO Eric Nicoli.

The price on these tracks has been raised to US $1.29. No word yet on whether competing music services such as Yahoo! Music will also begin selling DRM-free content.

Treo 755p Pictures Leaked?

Treo 755pEngadget has posted a few shots of what is supposedly the upcoming Palm Treo 755p. If accurate the pictures show the 755p as running Palm OS Garnet on Sprint with EvDO support. Also looking at the images, it would appear that the body is identical to the Treo 680/750 form-factor, which would make it the first CDMA Treo with an internal antenna. It's also said to have a 1.3 megapixel camera, but no word on what type of expansion memory it will use.

Rumors of a 755p on Sprint have been brewing for some time now. A new unit from Palm codenamed Sherlock, began showing up on internal Sprint release schedule's back in January. The most recent leaks have shown a 755p due in June.

Microsoft Trials New Deepfish Browser

Microsoft has unveiled a preview of Deepfish, a new mobile browsing technology for Windows Mobile devices (including the Treo 700wx and 750) that aims to preserve the layout and content of web pages. Similar to the mobile version of Apple's Safari browser (as demonstrated during the iPhone keynote), Deepfish eschews reformatting web pages for mobile screens and instead allows users to zoom in and out of the page to get at the content they need, giving a more desktop-like experience.

Unlike Safari (I assume), Deepfish does not render the pages itself. Rather, it uses a thin client to access servers that initially dish up a thumbnail image of the site you're browsing. According to the Deepfish Team blog, as you dig deeper into the page, Deepfish will load only the sections you're drilling into, resulting in "substantially quicker load times for most pages".

Deepfish is still in the preview stage and as such still lacks a number of features, such as cookies and javascript support. Despite this, the Deepfish Team say it still provides "a great experience on most sites". You can register for the preview at the Deepfish site. Read on for a video demo.
