Palm, Microsoft and Vodafone have announced that the Treo 750v for the Hong Kong market. The Windows Mobile powered Treo 750v will be available on the SmarTone-Vodafone network.

Spot! Released for Palm OS

Spot! Palm SoftwareSpot! is a new game for Palm OS from eSoft Interactive. Spot! takes your usual "spot-the-difference" game to a new level. The premise is the same as the the touch-screen bar arcade games that are now omnipresent all over the US. Spot! features hundreds of puzzles with many more available to download for free. It also has user profiles and some interesting music and sound effects.

Spot! for Palm OS is compatible with all hi-res (320x320) or better Palm OS 5.x devices. It comes with a free trial and sells for $9.95 USD.

Stanford PUG Meeting - Nov 7th

The Stanford Palm Pilot User Group meets at 7 pm on the first Tuesday of each month. The November seventh meeting will feature a demo of Google Maps for Palm OS, and of Stand Alone Software's Quick News for monitoring Election Day returns.

Opera Mini v3 Beta Released

Opera Software has released a beta of Opera Mini v3.0. Opera Mini is a smartphone optimized web browser that runs on almost every mobile phone including the Palm Treo. The new version adds secure browsing, RSS feed preview and aggregation, a photo upload feature and content folding.

Treo 750v Coming to New Zealand

Palm Treo 750vPalm today announced the Palm Treo 750v smartphone in New Zealand, the first Treo smartphone to take advantage of Vodafone's 3G/UMTS network. The Treo 750v offers the world-class Palm experience on Microsoft's Windows Mobile 5.0.

Kinoma Player 4 EX Released

Kinoma today released Kinoma Player 4 EX, the first network-centric media player for Treo smartphones and Palm Powered handhelds. Kinoma Player 4 EX provides the most complete support playback of Internet digital media available on the Palm OS - including Windows Media 9, Flash Video, MPEG-4, 3GPP, MP3, and RTSP (Real Time Streaming Protocol) - giving users access to the broadest range of streaming content possible. It also is the first application to bring YouTube and Google Video compatibility to Palm OS devices.

Raging Thunder for Palm OS Review

Raging Thunder for Palm OSArcade-style 3d racing simulators are a staple of the console and arcade gaming worlds. Surprisingly enough, the humble Palm OS has actually had a handful of quality arcade-style racers over the years. Race Fever and V-Rally were my personal favorites back in the days of OS 4. Palm OS 5 and its many permutations have brought us high-quality racers such as Xavier Martin's MicroQuad kart racer and Astraware's classic GTS Racing (my personal favorite).

StyleTap Platform Version 1.0 Released

StyleTap Platform Version 1.0 is now available. StyleTap is a Palm OS emulator that allows users to run thousands of Palm OS applications without changes on Windows Mobile Pocket PC PDAs and phones. The company also announced plans for future released on the Symbian and Microsoft Smartphone platforms.

ACCESS to Release Open Source Application Framework

ACCESS has announced it plans to release an Application Framework to the open source community under Mozilla Public License (MPL) v1.1. Security features that extend the Linux kernel are planned for release under the General Public License (GPL) v2. The Framework will be released before the end of the year and will be the industry’s first open source mobile Linux application framework for commercial use.

New Add-On Microphone Accessories

Palm TX Mini MicTech Center Labs has recently released two new add-on microphone modules for the Palm TX and Tungsten T5 handhelds. Both models offer a slimmer profile, than the previously reviewed external mic module.

The Mini-Mic module (pictured) has a smaller profile and the microphone is placed facing forward, rather than on the bottom. It sells for $19.95. TCL also has an even smaller Bud-Mic add-on that allows you to keep the power cable attached at the same time for extended use. It sells for $24.95.
