Rumor: An internal Cingular presentation on upcoming devices has been leaked on the web. The presentation includes information on the launch and pricing details for the
Palm Treo 680. According to the leaked documents the 680 will be a Cingular exclusive when it debuts in the US and its launch announcement will come on November 6th. It is expected to debut for $199 depending on the selected contract and rebates.

Socket Communications has announced a new SDIO laser bar code scanner. The Secure Digital Scan Card 3M (SDSC 3M) is designed for Palm OS and Windows Mobile devices. The SDSC provides for mobile 1D bar code scanning.

CorePlayer, the new and improved commercial successor to TCPMP, has been released for Palm OS devices today. CorePlayer is a advanced multimedia player that handles a wide variety of video formats.
This new version is compatible with a wide range of video formats including DivX, H.264, mpeg-4 and much more. The program also includes a MP3 and AAC audio player with support for album art and enhanced podcasts. It also includes new support for skins and streaming support.

Rumor: PalmInfocenter has received a tip that Palm is going to launch a new retail store location at 30 Rockefeller Center in New York City. The Midtown New York location will be just off 6th Avenue and 50th Street. According to the tipster, the store will have a fair amount of square footage. Rockefeller Center is a very popular tourist destination and is in a very prominent location in NYC.

Canalys has released their Q3 2006 EMEA smartphone market research report. The report found that EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) smart mobile device shipments grew 11.7% year on year in Q3 2006, up from 10.6% in Q2. Converged devices grew 19.2%, while unconnected handhelds fall again, this time by 42.7%. Symbian still controls the OS leadership spot with 78.7%, while Windows Mobile ranks second with 17%. Universe 3 is a new web browser in development for Palm OS. The browser is an open source project and is currently undergoing private beta testing. Its main features will include the ability to have up to three browser tabs, HTML/XHTML/WML support and an integrated RSS reader.

The Palm OS version of the new CorePlayer Mobile app, oddly AWOL at last
week's
Windows Mobile version launch, has now recevived an updated release date.
CorePlayer Mobile for Palm OS will now be available for download on
Tuesday, October 24th. Some last minute bugs prevented the release of the
Palm version simultaneously with the Windows Mobile and PPC versions.
