Opera Software today announced the worldwide release of Opera Mini, the full Web browser that runs on almost every mobile phone, including Palm OS handhelds and Treo smartphones. Opera Mini is available free of charge via a over the air WAP download, or for a small fee via SMS.

FileMaker today announced the immediate availability of FileMaker Mobile 8, a companion to FileMaker Pro 8 designed specifically for Palm OS and Pocket PC handheld devices. The new FileMaker Mobile 8 now goes beyond synchronizing with local desktop databases only. For the first time, it allows users to synchronize handhelds with databases on FileMaker Server 8 and FileMaker Server 8 Advanced.

Palm has released the Treo 650 Updater version 1.20 for the Treo 650. This update is only intended for the unlocked GSM unit used in North America. This ROM update offers a number of improvements including enhanced voice quality, Bluetooth performance, improved browsing and Gmail support.

Final judgement regarding the Taylor vs. Palm suit has been reached and accepted. This class action lawsuit was brought against Palm involving the m100, m105 and m125 handhelds. The lawsuit stated the PDAs may be defective in that they sometimes lose data during the process of replacing batteries even when the user follows Palm's recommended procedure.
