Sony Japan has announced that it will ship samples of their mini digital television broadcast tuner will ship soon. The new module will be used by manufacturers to enable mobile phones and PDA's to receive broadcast TV.

According to news out of the European Developer conference, PalmSource plans to continue to develop Palm OS 5, even after OS 6 is finished. The company will release a special version of OS 5 that will target mobile phones.

Handango is now offering a free localization program, enabling developers to localize their applications for European markets. IBM's J2ME for Palm OS runtime will ship soon, Appforge had announced MobileVB support fro OS 5, the European Powered Up awards have been announced and photos from the conference are online.

PalmSource has announced at its developer seminar, currently under way in Munich, that Palm OS 6, code-named Sahara, will be complete by December 29th. The new version will focus on wireless technology standards, security and multimedia.

Sony has announced a Tivo like device, that records television and video onto a memory stick in a format optimized for Clie handhelds. The VR100K Video Recorder accessory can record hours of programming and the recorded videos can be viewed on a TV, PC or anywhere the handheld goes.

NVidia has disclosed details on the company's first graphics chip designed for mobile handheld devices including PDA's and phones. The first product from the MediaQ, Inc. acquisition, the NVIDIA GoForce 2150 is the industry's first low power media processor with 1.3 megapixel camera support.

Intel has disclosed a few broad technical details of its next-generation of Intel XScale based processors to be used in mobile phones, PDAs and other wireless devices. The upcoming processors, code named "Bulverde," will add several new features that will help devices to capture higher quality pictures, improve battery life and multimedia performance.

Palm, Inc. today reported revenues of $177.4 million for the first quarter of fiscal year 2004, ended Aug. 29, 2003, up 3.0 percent from the $172.3 million reported during the comparable quarter a year ago. The company expects future growth and demand for handhelds in the coming months.

Wall Street Journal personal technology journalist Walt Mossberg, has been using the Treo 600 for a few weeks and has posted his review. The Treo 600, was just launched in Europe yesterday and will be available from US carriers by the end of October.
