With PalmSource in China this week, a host of new announcements have been made regarding PalmSource’s entry into the Chinese market. Two new Palm OS liscensee have been announced, Legend Group Limited and Group Sense (International). As the fastest growing market for mobile information devices, China offers tremendous opportunities for PalmSource and its partners.

PalmSource had announced it will license the Palm OS to China's biggest PC firm, Legend Group. The four-year deal will let Legend fit its handheld computers with a Chinese language version of PalmSource's OS 4.2 operating system.

While many still await the ability to listen to mp3's on their Tungsten T's; another audio program that supports the open source Ogg/Vorbis format, has been released. Pocket Tunes 1.1, from NormSoft, supports ARM-Native Ogg Vorbis decoding, customizable skins, playlists, wav files and more.

Handspring today announced a new offer for its Treo for the price of $99 after mail in rebate. For a limited time, and only while supplies last, customers who purchase a Treo 180 or 180g with a GPRS service contract from T-Mobile will be eligible to receive $150 through a mail-in rebate.

Palm Digital Media, a subsidiary of PalmSource, today announced a new version of the Palm Retail Encryption Server Software. The software provides libraries with an easy way to let patrons check out Palm Reader eBooks. The announcement came at the Open eBook Forum's Tablet PC Digital Publishing Conference held today at McGraw-Hill Auditorium.

The VEO SD Photo Traveler is a camera for PalmOS handhelds that interfaces through the SDIO port. It supports Palm OS versions 4.x and 5.0. Pictures are either 320x240 or 640x480 in resolution and stored in 24 bit color JPGs. Guest Reviewer, Jon Zaring brings us this review.

A group calling themselves Aerodrome Software have released a public beta of an Ogg/Vorbis media player for the Palm Tunsgten T handheld. The player inititally supports only ogg/vorbis encoded files, a new open source audio format, but promises to have mp3 support in the near future.

An Austrian electrician has invented the world's first tattooing robot and it runs the Palm OS. According to the news site Ananova, Niki Passath, 25, has unveiled his invention, which he calls Freddy, at a hi-tech fair in Vienna.

In the 80s, what once took enough hardware to fill a good sized closet; can now be carried around in the palm of your hand. A group called Codejedi has developed a Palm OS 5 compatible arcade emulator, similar to the MAME emulator on the PC side. The initial release is a beta that only supports the Space Invaders rom, more games will be supported as development continues.
