News.com is
reporting that the licensee that Palm is reporting will be coming out with a color Palm might be none other than Palm itself and in internal memos, Palm's own hardware division has been referred to as a licensee. The article goes on further to speculate that the reason Palm hasn't said that they are going to be the ones with the color Palm is because of their upcoming IPO.
( The article also refers to the email sent to Palm developers which we have posted
here -@ )

I attended an
OmniSky focus group meeting 1/20/00. Lots of knew stuff coming up; some will be quicker then others. About the meeting:
11 participants, 9 men 2 women. Although the mix among the participants' occupations ranged from a SF police department member, to a construction materials salesperson, most everyone was a "Computer Consultant" of some fashion. What else could you expect when you hold a meeting like this smack in the middle of Silicon Valley?

There's no question that Handheld devices and Palm PDA's have been getting allot of attention and support lately, and now the numbers are in to confirm the rise of the PDA. CNET has an
article on the latest sales figures in the Handheld market. They attribute the gains to more features and price ranges and that, "People rely on the new functionality of handheld devices for easier, more efficient completion of the same tasks formerly reserved for desktop or notebook PCs."

PCWEEK put the
TRGPro to the
test and stacked it up against the Palm IIIX. Priced at only $30 more than the IIIx, they claim the TRG excels due to it's 8 megs and industry standard CompactFlash support.

This email was forwarded to me by a fellow Palm developer. It looks like it was sent out to all the registered Palm Developers this morning...
Dear Solution Provider:
Color is coming! By now you all should have heard about or perhaps even seen the newest release of the Palm OS that includes color support. In the spring of 2000, one of the hardware manufacturers that makes products based on the Palm OS will release a device with a color display! This licensee is interested in showing some of the stable, useful, quality,
color applications that exist at the time of the product launch in its media campaign and possibly on its web site. They also want to give you, the developers, enough time to prepare for this new product introduction. More...

review ... Hello, My name is Mike Terranova, sixteen years old, and I'm happy to share my impression of the OmniSky service. I ordered my OmniSky unit a week prior to Christmas (order #2666) and was told I would receive it by the second week of January. Sure enough, it was there January 7th.

The
PalmReader is reporting that an anonymous source inside
Compaq claims the company plans to drop its Windows CE-based line of organizers in favor of a new line based on another platform, most likely the PalmOS. We reported this
rumor back in November and it looks like something may become of it soon. Linux could also be a possibility, Compaq developed a tiny prototype handheld called
Itsy, that ran a modified version of Linux.

If you didn't read it on
AvantGo already, Wired has an
article discussing 3com's recent legal situation. The author mentions how recent lawsuits are tarnishing the upcoming Palm IPO. They also mention that 3com has some sort of internet appliance in the works that will "be comparable to the Palm computer in its streamlined interface."

review ... "If I only had this in college…"
As I began previewing this program, I reflected on my college days and the calculators we used in different business classes. And after going through several models, I finally settled on an HP 19 business calculator. What a crime to pay a few hundred dollars back then and to now see an application that handles the missing features in all of the models I used to use…for the low price of $29.95! The wonders of technology...
