Comments on: OmniSky and Vindigo to Make Advertising Part of their Services
OmniSky and DoubleClick have announced that they will begin a limited trial of wireless advertising in December, with a full roll-out in early 2001. They are working with users to develop and test ads that are relevant and valuable. Also, they are working as board members of the Wireless Advertising Association to develop standards that benefit the entire wireless industry.
Barak Berkowitz, president of OmniSky, said, "We are committed to advertising that adds to, rather than distracts from, the user experience. OmniSky will work closely with DoubleClick to ensure positive momentum for the entire industry."

I think it can be advantagious if the ads are specific to handheld users. For example, I am an avid cigar smoker and frequently read Cigar Afficianado & Smoke magazines. The advertisements are not skipped over by any means, if anything I peruse the mag FOR THE ADS, before settling on any one article.
I can't imagine a worse idea

The thought of advertisers harrassing me via my Palm makes me sick.
No Ads

The system is slow as it is now. With the addition of ads it's going to be even slower. OmniSky has great pricing, better than any other wireless provider. But not if we're going to start seeing ads.
WHAT?!?!?!?

This rates right up there with telemarketers calling you on your cell phone. Same theory.

Hmm . . The thought scares the crap out of me . . . hahaha . .
