Comments on: Wireless Palm VIIx Price Reduction
This is sure to set off a round of speculation among Palm watchers. Is Palm reducing the price because interest in the VIIx is waning? Or are they preparing to introduce a new model at $450? Or is it simply that the VIIx is five months old so they can't justify a "premium" price anymore?

Palm VIIx price reduction
PALM has not been able to sell as many VII's as they would like because of the shortage. In their recent 2nd quarter teleconference call they stated that they have finished with a re-design of The PALM VII series so they can qualify a new supplier. They mentioned that the PALM VII family will be finally be available in mass after January 15th and at that date, they would begin to aggressively promote the VII family---something they have not been able to do since the debut of the PALM VII and the PALM VIIx. The $50 price break is simply a way of them promoting the product. They will follow up with additional print and media as well as in-store and Point-of-sale advertising.
Just a side note, Palm's CEO, Carl Yankowski, mentioned during the concerence call that one of his major frustrations since he took the helm at PALM in December 1999, had been the company's inability to provide unlimitted amounts of Palm VII series products in order to grow their "content & access" business.....well now he got his wish.... NICE JOB CARL!!

"Our Content & Access revenue still primarily reflects subscription revenue from our Palm.NetTM service. Subscribers to the Palm.Net service grew 23% sequentially from 121,000 at the end of Q1 to 149,000 at the end of Q2. Recall that last quarter we indicated that sales of our Palm VIIx handheld would be constrained this quarter due to a shortage of two sole-sourced radio frequency components. Because of these and other component shortages over the past year, we have not aggressively marketed the Palm VII family almost since its inception. We have now completed a redesign of the Palm VIIx handheld in order to qualify a new supplier for the latest component shortages. The components are expected to be available in the second half of fiscal Q3, and at that time, we plan to begin aggressively marketing the integrated wireless Palm VIIx handheld."

2. The fact that the Palm VII is not selling well is not inconsistent with being unable to find it for sale. If they don't sell well, stores won't order them, and you won't find them in stock.
So try backing up what you say and give a little thought to the matter before you start cursing and flaming people.
Wake Up!!!!!!!
Also.....I was on the phone with Palm support two days ago and the tech rep. said there was a V Color due out soon...
Color Vx Coming
RE: Color Vx Coming
Now, if they were to release a VIIc......
RE: Color Vx Coming
If there ever is a color V series unit, it won't look like a V, or if it does, it'll be just as thick as the IIIC and the point of the slim design will be lost because people thought color was necessary on a V.
Palm has no immediate plans for the release of a Vc model. Trust me.

Don’t feel bad. Most products are designed by third parties.
