Comments on: m505 Still 404 for Many

Wednesday of this week, the first shipments of m505s appeared at Office Depot stores and almost instantly were snapped up. While this has made many people happy new m505 owners, a majority of seekers are still hoping for the next shipment.

Judy Bruner, Palm's Chief Financial Officer, said that current shipments of the m505 are not enough to meet demand and higher volume shipments aren't expected until the end of this month or the beginning of next.

404 as in the http error for a "page not found",
it's the message you see when you click on a bad link.

Hey guys.

Got my Palm m505 yesterday in Toronto, Canada. The screen looks GREAT, better then the Palm Vx that I have. It look amazing. Trust me guys.

505 for sale @ my cost
Chromosome @ 5/4/2001 11:03:17 PM #
I'm disappointed that I can't store huge DBs on the SD/MMC. I'm not willing to wait for fixes to trickle in. Like it, but I'll keep my trusty Vx just the same. I paid 475 (w/tax) and 65 for a 32MB MMC. Shipping should cost about 25. I'll send it all to you for 565. I'm not trying to gouge fellow palm enthusiasts, I'm just offering it if nobody can find one. If nobody wants it I'll return it. You can store copyrighted material on MMC by removing the copyright with Z'Cat (already done it). I'll leave Z'Cat and my copy of the infamous HaCkMe on the unit. (See the infocenter story on HaCkMe-which was so cool it was pulled off PalmGear after several hours) By the way, I contributed that story--first time I ever got a letter published (I'm so proud). send inquires to tuckermaclain@yahoo.com

Even 404 is still better than:

500 Internal Error
501 Not Implemented
415 Unsuported Media Type (not SD or what?)
416 Requested Range Not Satisfiable

Anyway is 402 Payment Required, and it's not 403 Forbidden.

And let's hope is not 417 - Expectation Failed

Check out Fry's

I.M. Anonymous @ 5/4/2001 11:19:59 AM #
Was at a Fry's yesterday (wilsonville, or) and they had at least 20 505's on the shelf.

RE: Check out Fry's
I.M. Anonymous @ 5/4/2001 3:20:35 PM #
Same for the Fry's in Sacramento. I was there last night. They has one on display and SEVERAL available.

RE: Check out Fry's
I.M. Anonymous @ 5/4/2001 4:33:00 PM #
Just bought one today in the Fountain Valley (Orange Co.) Fry's store. I guess it was
the last one. I just called them and they held it for me.

I'm a Visor Deluxe owner, but I'm am gonna keep this M505. Visor goes to the spouse.
Yes the screens not as bright as a IIIc, but I found it very usable under
office lighting, and I don't think I need to use Glowhack. Turning the frontlight on does
give a nice even glow. Walking in the outside sun, screen is great.

So they're out there, just call around.

Got in in Canada (Quebec city)

No one else as them, not even the major distributor like INGRAM, MERISSEL...

I guess I’m lucky

By the way it is great!

I sold my Vx 3 weeks ago hand I’m beginning to get my life back with my new 505

Kinda sucks that the new craddle is a USB port.

m505 in Greater Vancouver (Canada)

I.M. Anonymous @ 5/4/2001 11:56:05 AM #
Well the m505's are in at all Staples in Vancouver Canada and area, but they're just flying out the door. I work at Staples and we only got 4 in (most stores only got about 4 or 5 in) and most stores have sold out on the day we got them in (may 3rd), even before we got a chance to put a demo model out. Just keep looking around, there should be some trickling around still i'm sure. =)

I of course was one of those lucky 4 people who picked one up yesterday; its a sweet unit, now hopefully we'll get some accessories for it soon. =)

Palm M505 is 417 (Expectation Failed)

its good that they're returning their m505, so others can have a chance to buy them! Personally I've used the Vx and m505 and I would go hands down to m505 anytime in terms of usability, portability - eventho the screen is not perfect.

Please Don't Feed The Trolls. Anybody that doesn't like the display on the m505 is nuts. I am giving my Prism to my wife, and I was quite pleased with the display. After reading all of the reports about the poor quality of the screen, I was ready for a big disappointment. I was pleasantly surprised. It's not as bright as the Prism, but I didn't expect it to be. Outdoors, it is spectacular. Under noe trollsrmal office lighting, it is perfectly legible, and colorful, and with the backlight on, it is even better. No regrets on this purchase. So keep all of the trolls at bay. Don't feed their voracious appetite.

RE: Palm M505 is 417 (Expectation Failed)
I.M. Anonymous @ 5/4/2001 2:27:30 PM #
I got an m505 at OD. Love it. I was unsure if I would like it or not, but I'm sold. Form factor is great. The screen is just fine for me. Screen looks beautiful at night and just fine outside. In office conditions, it's acceptable, and much better than my old Vx. I installed GlowHack to turn the sidelight on at startup. Works just fine. Battery life is fine. I can go all day using the sidelight on and only use about 25% battery at most. That's great. I leave the thing on the cradle at home and work anyway.

My only issue with the Palm right now is the expansion card. I don't think I understand it fully, or the technology may be in its infancy. You can move games over to the card without problems. Many simple programs go over without a hitch. However, stuff like AvantGo loses databases when it goes over to the card. I'm sure some utilities are on the way to deal with moving things back and forth.

Oh, the speed. Way fast. Click, and you're there. Much, much, much faster than the Vx. And color games are so much cooler than when played on the Vx. What a difference a little color makes!

I've owned just about every Palm from the Palm Pro forward. I think the only one I skipped was the VII (went with Omnisky instead). This Palm is by far the best I've seen. I wouldn't own anything else right now.

Oh, the Clie. I thought about it. The weight is OK, but it's just too big for me. Also, the screen shots that I have seen show good details, but the text looks quite faint. I do a lot of typing on the Palm. I'm worried that it will be too hard to see text on the screen. Who knows. One thing is for sure -- I'm not going to have to pay inflated prices for external memory. Sony can take their proprietary memory modules and, well, Stick it. ;)

My M505 is shipping today but from everything I have read I have a feeling it will be going
back to the store. THe 505 will be my first handheld and I was looking forward to having it, but
with the exception of this site, the majority of reviews I have read all say the same thing,
that the screen is bad, the colors are washed out, you can break a nail trying to get the stylus out and once you have it out its rough to write with and the cover doesn't fit. Needless to say I will wait
until I have mine in hand but It apears that The Sony Clie is going to give the 505 a
run for its money as alll of the reviews and ratings I have seen for the Clie are superior to the M505.

RE: Palm M505 is 417 (Expectation Failed)
I.M. Anonymous @ 5/4/2001 3:06:31 PM #
I think one of the many problems Palm is going to have from preannouncing this thing so far in advance is people have had time to get their hopes up way too high. Palm's CEO first said this thing was coming in like october or something. That's 6 months for people to think about it which is long enough for them to build it up in their minds until it was the second coming of Christ or something.

It is a PDA smaller than a V with a color screen. That's what Palm promised and that's what they delivered. If you thought it was going to be something different, that's your lookout.

RE: Palm M505 is 417 (Expectation Failed)
I.M. Anonymous @ 5/4/2001 3:08:09 PM #
You're feeding the Trolls. I asked you not to do that. They love to spread mis-information. The m505 is a beautiful example of American Technological Engineering. The people complaining about the m505 probably complain about not having something to complain about, after they are done complaining.

RE: Palm M505 is 417 (Expectation Failed)
I.M. Anonymous @ 5/4/2001 3:59:07 PM #

What about this "don't feed the trolls" harangue? Should we discuss only nice things about a product on this board? Is this a cult?
I would like to hear BOTH GOOD and BAD things so that I can make a better decision when I buy.
I know I can ignore your comments but you do point out some good things so I have to read on. But asking other people not to post bad things about the m505?....

"Check out www.Palmblvd.com M505 msg board. It is full of disappointed customers. Most of them returned it the next day. I will be saving my $$ for the Sony N710C....."

I went to the link and saw 2 posts regarding returns of the m505. The two messagess looked like they where written by the same person. That is not "full of disappointed customers" or "most of them returned it".
I also liked the "I ordered one but I have not seen it and it will be going back" post.

One does not know if that person has an ax to grind. Also there is no accountability. So...
If it writes like a Troll it is a Troll.

Anyone want a palm? (Internationally, too)

I.M. Anonymous @ 5/4/2001 12:17:32 PM #
This is not an advertisement. If anyone (maybe you international palm freaks) wants a new m505, I will go out and buy one...and ship it to you. You pay for shipping (probably no more than $10 or $15, insured...maybe just $5-$8 for domestic). You do have to pay for sales tax, though...I'm not that nice. I'll make no profit. Maybe $5....
I'll probably only be able to buy 1 or 2 (besides mine, which I have reserved).
I figure, why not let those of you who might not get it for another MONTH to get it now?
You need to pay me first, of course.
If anyone is interested, post a reply with your email and I will send you mine.

Best Buy's usually don't get the new arrivals in anything until after 2 months. This happend to me when I wanted to buy my cell phone.

Just a suggestion... You could buy one from Staples or Office Depot use it, and then the one you trade up for from Best Buy you could return to OD or Staples and get a refund.

Otherwise Wait...

CompUSA has 505's

Karshikinpa @ 5/4/2001 1:26:12 PM #
The CompUSA in Brentwood, TN (Cool Springs Area) got a shipment of 10 yesterday. I sold one last night before I left. Most of our stores should have gotten them yesterday, or will get them today. We had 20 on order, so are hoping to get the second shipment of 10 soon.

I took one outside to check the backlight in direct sunlight, and compared to the indoor flourescant lights, the screen looked identical. Also, I read a review that said the screen was hard to see from the side. This is false, It only becomes black at an angle of roughly 70 degrees or more from straight on.

RE: CompUSA has 505's
I.M. Anonymous @ 5/4/2001 2:36:18 PM #
Not the one near me in New Jersey. I think the problem is shipping times. If you see they are very much available in CA where Palm is located but not so much as you travel East. I would expect it on the East cost on Monday or Tuesday.

RE: CompUSA has 505's
I.M. Anonymous @ 5/4/2001 2:43:40 PM #

Which area are you in?

M505

I.M. Anonymous @ 5/4/2001 2:46:39 PM #
I was one of "the lucky ones" who got a M505 from the Office Depot. I was so dissapointed I returned the unit < 24 hours after I received it. First, the quality of the colors left a lot to be desired. Even with the back light, the colors appeared faded and non-vibrant. The color screen was the primary reason I wanted the 505 so this was my biggest disappointment.

Other less important but equally disappointing factors included the docking cradle. It was very difficult to undock the unit. When I followed the directions for removing the device, it fit so tight in the cradle I got the impression I was going to break the pins off the back of the unit. Finally, the stylus fit so tight I could hardly get it out. My thumbnail would not tolerate a long-term relationship!

The pre-distribution hype certainly created higher expectations than what the product delivered. It was a bust! I'm going to wait for the Sony Clie PEG-710C! Don

The m505 should have been called m404 in the first place due to its disappointing color screen quality. The m505 should have been reserved for the next generation front lit reflective TFT color 320 x 320 screen like the one used in the upcoming Sony Clie.

Palm computing published and article on their June issue that discloses other addon's for sony clie's that will be released in the up comming year, if not sooner. Modems, camera's, gps reciever etc.. were also mentioned in the article.

I too dislike proprietary equipment, however Sony is going to give Palm a run for its life.. so it seems.

This does not mean that one is better than the other, just different, for different lifestyle...

The Unit ships with the USB CRADLE...not a cable...as you are looking for. I have looked around for accessories, and I didn't find either a USB Cable or a Keyboard yet. I suppose i'm one of the lucky ones who got their m505 on Wednesday...I'm still looking for a serial cable, so i can connect it with my Motorola Timeport phone. So good luck getting your m505 and/or cable/keyboard!

Thanks!

The search/wait continues....

Sharper Image to have m505 by 5/10

I am one of the many Palm Store customers who pre-ordered the m505 who is VERY upset to hear about the units being available at Office Depot. I spoke with The Sharper Image this morning and they say that the m505 will be in their warehouses by the 10th of May.

For those who have ordered from palm if you 're upset
and I would list a complaint with a supervisor who will get it up to the coporate offices--I say that you still have time to cancel your orders.

So far, I am pleased with the unit other than the fit of the unit into the cradle.

When Palm announced the m500 series they said IBM would release a version.

> IBM intends to announce and ship new versions of its WorkPad,
> based on the m500 series handhelds, in the second quarter.
> Palm is an OEM for IBM WorkPads.

Other than that they will be called the c500 and c505, that's pretty much all I know.

Office Depot stores in San Jose got three or four at each store yesterday.

Also yesterday Fry's got them in. I was in the store on Hamilton Avenue in San Jose (Campbell?) and they had a whole shelf full of M505s. At least 25 of them.

I just called the Fry's store in Palo Alto, CA. They don't have the m505. I asked him to check inventory at the other local stores -- he says the shipments from Palm are late and no local Fry's have them yet.

Bay Area = Fry's
I.M. Anonymous @ 5/4/2001 11:30:11 PM #
While the Office Depot thing still puzzles me, one thing is for sure about the Bay Area; If it's electric, Fry's has it. Don't bother calling and asking anyone there to give you accurate information. Heck, you could called and say, "Hi, I have a thousand dollars to spend on a 13" black & white Daewoo TV, do you have any in stock?" What will then happen is: A voice says either,
A: "Hold on". And you will be put on hold until 3 call waiting calls went to voice mail & you finally decide to hang up.
B: "I am very sorry sir, I had one left but zumbody spilled a cup of curry sauce on it. Try the Fremont store." When you ask for the number-- Go to item 'A'

But the good news is they always have it. So go my friend. Go swiftly & proudly.

Remember: Your Best Buys are always, at Fry's!

what is the diff betw SD and MMC?
MMC seems to be a lot cheaper.
Plus, I heard that the transfer rates are the same
now (MMC and 1st generation SD)

Is there something that I am missing? Is an MMC
the way to go?

Plus, what will I be able to do with an MMC? the same things as with an SD?
I want to store some applications and photos on it...will it run? ( i don't care if it runs off the mmc directly or if it will get copied to the palm's physical ram)

I am one of the lucky ones who got a m505 from an Office Depot in Orlando (Actually my wife got it for me as a birthday gift)

Well, she dropped it off at work, so I decided to install the software on my work machine and check it out.

When I was putting the m505 in the cradle one time, my computer reset! After it rebooted my USB mouse was no longer working. It appears that the USB ports were physically damaged!!! Luckily the computer had a PS2 port so the IT department wasn't too pissed at me. But I sure am happy this didn't happen on my home computer.

So BE VERY CAREFUL when inserting your m505 into the cradle so that you don't toast your USB ports on your computer!!!

btw, the m505 appears to be unharmed by this (*whew*)

m505 in Bay Area OD

I.M. Anonymous @ 5/4/2001 8:10:41 PM #
I just picked up the last m505 at the Office Depot in San Carlos (corner of Brittan & Industrial). They said they only got 3 of them, so it looks like they are starting to ship in limited quantities to the retail stores, even in the bay area.

They had one more!
I.M. Anonymous @ 5/4/2001 10:03:55 PM #
I called, reserved it, and picked it up...

The screen looks great. Holding it next to a Palm V is light night and day.

RE: m505 is best PDA on the market!
I.M. Anonymous @ 5/5/2001 4:58:57 PM #
All things have tradeoffs. For PDAs the trade offs are often size, color quality and battery life. With that said I think that the m505 (which I just bought yesterday from OD San Carlos) is the BEST PDA ON THE MARKET. The 505 has:

1. color
2. small size (no other color PDA even approaches the 505's size and thinness)
3. great design (best looking PDA)
4. relatively good battery life (although this is TBD)
5. Good viewability inside and outside (the HP Jornada is impossible to see outside)
6. usability (and it's a Palm, not a unusable PPC!)

I think Palm made the right tradeoff between screen and battery life. I wouldn't want a color palm if I always have to recharge it (again like the HP Jornada). Also, I won't ever go back to a Palm III size Palm.

I found a 505, made the purchase...and now I take it back

I.M. Anonymous @ 5/4/2001 9:26:46 PM #
Ever since my first Palm Pilot I have been waiting for the 505, but it comes up way short. A side-by-side comparison with my IIIC demonstrated that the 505 screen is a poor second.

The 505 screen is dim and the colors appear washed out; even with the side light on. The IIIC seems so much better, especially when viewing pictures.

The 505 has to go back and I will wait till the 510 comes out with the Sony screen.

New 505 owner

I.M. Anonymous @ 5/4/2001 11:13:37 PM #

Hi,

As a complete newbie to Palm products I just purchased my first unit today in Toronto, Canada, the m505. Since I don't really have anything to compare it to, overall I like it very much. The screen does seem a tad bland when I compared it to the IIIc model today.
The bigger surprise I got was when I attempted to set up the USB cradle and found out that my O/S - NT4 doesn't support USB. Crap, but what do you expect from Microsoft.

I just want to thank the forum for the countless reviews that I've read that helped influence my purchase decision. Looking forward to more great info from this site. :-)

505@ staples NJ;$20 off and free 16MG card. Screen is a bit off a let down unlit, but backlighting is nice in low light. grid lines a bit lame. Handscape seems to cause it to crash. Just remember- m50x series runs Palm OS4.0 and it seems that most developers aren't too worried about compatibility yet. As an example, TRG (HandEra) does not have a version of FlashPro for OS4.o yet and when I asked them about it a few weeks ago, I got a nasty e-mail that said, in part, "Flashpro v. 1.09 does not work with OS 4.0. OS 4.0 hasn't even been released yet. Once Palm releases units with OS 4.0 on them, we will be able to start developing a version of Flashpro to work with it." At that time (4/3/01) I had already flashed my IIIc with Palm OS4.0. Here's how:

1. You have to be a registered Palm developer and download the final version ROMs for OS4.0.

2. You need the FlashUtility for OS3.5 upgrade

3. You run the Palm OS3.5 upgrade, but choose the Advanced button and perform a debug reset on your Palm.

4. Put Palm in the cradle and install.

M505 in Syracuse, NY

I.M. Anonymous @ 5/5/2001 11:35:33 AM #
After calling just about every retail store in the central NY area, I finally got in touch with CompUSA. At first, they told me that they don't have any m505's even though their online inventory system showed that they had 10 of them. To make a long story short, they ended up having 10 of them and so I drove down and picked one up. Now they have 9. The screen is nice but I agree that it is pretty dim in room light. I wonder if there is a utility that automatically turns on the front-light whenever you turn the unit on. With that light on, the screen is perfect in just about any standard lit room. When you are outside with sunlight, the screen is perfect with it off. Any suggestions?

Manual option to adjust screen contrast for the m505 ?

I.M. Anonymous @ 5/5/2001 12:06:47 PM #
Hi,

I just saw this posting (www.brighthand.com) about being able to manually adjust the brightness on the m505. I have not tried it I'm wondering if others have (I'm totally new to Palm and a bit nervous about trying this):

=======================
As with the Visor Prism, there is a relatively simple method for users to adjust the screen contrast to suit their preferences. The steps are as follows:

(Originally described in an internal memo recently leaked from Technical Support at Palm.)*

1) HotSync to ensure all databases are backed up
2) Open up Memo Pad and write, "ESC.<0975$6IA
3) Save memo and move it to top of Memo list
4) Soft reset
5) Open saved memo, details, change to "Private"
6) Soft reset
7) Open up Memo Pad and write, CONTR.>75319$C/A6/R L_gosub
8) Save memo and then delete first memo
9) Soft reset

Contrast should now be at same level as a Visor Prism, but at the expense of battery life, whch will be reduced by approximately 35%. This system hack does NOT work with US-made m505s, which were available in relatively limited numbers this week.

Very few Palm Tech support staff have been made aware of this arcane fix which was reportedly designed as a backup plan to be used in case the default contrast settings generated too many customer complaints. Unshipped m505s will likely undergo factory recalibration by Palm technicians over the
next week. Support calls that "escalate" are managed by Tier III Support staff, who have been instructed to walk users through the reset process.

Palm is apparently reluctant to have customers use the Memo Pad Contrast Hack because any errors made in entry of the contrast initialization string may result in an endless loop reset.

Here is the link :

http://discussion.brighthand.com/showthread.php?s=fd8329f489e43a657ff0282816317100&threadid=20651

I also chatted with Palm support thie morning about this "fix" and go figure they would not support this.

I'm new and probably misinformed, but I'd thought I'd pass this along to get some insight.

Ed...is there any way that you could verify this? I have a machine made in Hungary and I couldn't get this to work. Could be though that there instructions leave room for error and could be better written. I went directly to the link at Brighthand which includes a ? that is not included in the above message so use the link to try it I guess. I've tried this on mine (assembled in USA) and it didn't work. Apparently it said on the thread that it only work on the model assembled oversea (Hungary I believe). Any other way to make the screen brighter (at the cost of battery life) please let me know. Thanks

I.M. Anonymous @ 5/5/2001 1:45:49 PM #
It works! The screen is FANTASTIC! I'll see if I can borrow a digital camera today and post a photo of the screen with the improved contrast.

You have to follow the directions *exactly*, otherwise it won't work. I had tried it a few times before I realized that I shouldn't be including the quotation marks. Thanks to Satan for posting this and saving my m505 from low-contrast Hell. ;-)

The modified instructions are -

As with the Visor Prism, there is a relatively simple method for users to

Ed @ 5/5/2001 1:47:21 PM #
Sorry, but until someone posts a way to undo this I'm going to pass. I like my m505's screen the way it is now and I find its battery life to be just this side of acceptable. I really don't want a 35% cut in battery life.

Someone posted on Brighthand that the quote in front of the text in the first memo needs to be left off for this to work. You might try that if you put it in.

I suspect that someone will soon write an app/hack that will do this. I only hope it is reversible.

Thank you! I can now actually read the screen on my m505. I was just about to box it up to return it to Office Depot when I read your instructions.

Palm had better get their act together and fix all of these handhelds before they have a disaster on their hands. I wonder what percent of m505 have already been returned by disappointed owners?

I.M. Anonymous @ 5/5/2001 2:06:58 PM #
I haven't tried it myself (I'm worried that I might not like the new setting and no-one seems to know yet if this is reversible or adjustable) but according to the thread posted at http://discussion.brighthand.com/showthread.php?s=fd8329f489e43a657ff0282816317100&threadid=20651
the website's editor tried it and it works.

I doubt a respected Palm expert like Steve Bush would post something works if it didn't.

Good Vibrations?

I.M. Anonymous @ 5/5/2001 2:13:07 PM #
Well, I am really loving my 505. I have one major problem and I would like to know if any other 505 owners have the same occurence... or lack of occurence, I should say. I am trying to get the vibrating alarm to work. I have it turned on (and is confirmed by three short vibrations). I also have the alarm sound and LED turned off. I am using Silver Screen (Color) and Action Names as two of my primary apps.

Whenever I make an appointment with an alarm set, the palm turns on but never vibrates. I tried getting it to work within Sliver Screen and outside of Silver Screen and within Action Names and without it. No dice. Anyone have any advice? Please... Thanks.

I have a 500 and can not get the vibrating alarm to work unless I set the appointment or alarm in the palm date book. Works fine then but will not work if I set it in Date Book 4. Now I just set the alarm in the palm date book and then use date book 4.

The manuals for the "m500" series are generic. That is one manual for both m500 and m505. This is the quote from the Palm.com m500 FAQ:

No. The manual supplied on the CD that came with your m505 is used for both the m500 and the m505. In order to simplify the instructions, only the term backlight was used. The m500 is equipped with a backlight.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, I understand now.

what's wrong with palm

s2k @ 5/6/2001 6:32:35 PM #
palm made a mistake by designing the expansion port so thin and flimsy. there won't be much possibilities for ext. hardware. gps, for example, like the geode for visor would just snap off. i think they should have copied off handspring's SpriNgboard port to make something that is able to expand in hardware in a more efficient way

they didn't want to use something as big as the Springboard Slot was, and it wouldn't have been a good business Decision

Rattling Sound of the M505

I realized that there is a rattling sound when I shake my M505... Wonder if my unit is defective. Can you guys check if your unit have this rattle as well? Thanks

It could be the power button. Put a finger on the power button and then shake, if you hear nothing then your unit is in good shape

RE: finally -- Staples

How did you swing that deal? Was that publicly offered? And was yours a pre-order? I've preordered from Staples and am considering a terrorist campaign against all the companies, including Staples, that took pre-orders and then proceeded to ignore them completely, while offering greater availability and better deals to in-store purchasers.

My order # 5353130

Protesting Too Much?

LOT of talk & rationalization going on about the 505 color screen. It's o.k. as long as the sidelight is on... So why didn't Palm build it that way? Battery life & longevity will take a hit; could be the answer. Being an IT professional, I don't do much business in the parking lot at high noon. I need something that works well inside, like in meetings, hallways, offices.
So far I've learned that it is heavy compared to the V & 500, screen needs help indoors, can't directly address extra memory, cool SD stuff will be coming Real Soon Now (in time for Xmas?), stupid "cover", different sized side-slots, a plastic back, old accessories won't fit (yet another keyboard! Yikes!), and it will cost $450 plus $30 for a decent case & $20 for a good stylus.
Bet I can find a new Vx for around $250 and not have to put up with a device at twice the cost & with half the advantages. No thanks. I'll wait for the 605 and see if they get it right, and if Handspring doesn't run right over them in the near future.
