Comments on: HandEra Li-Ion Pack to Provide Months of Use

HandEra has made some announcements about pricing and availability for new power accessories, including the Lithium-Ion Battery and the AC adapter for the HandEra 330.

When the 330 was released, the company said there would eventually be a rechargeable option for it that would fit into the battery bay where the 4 AAAs fit. They said today this will be available in mid-September for $46. According to their statement, this will last for "months of useable life with each charge".

I wouldn't buy one, but I admire their fiestiness!! I hope the 330 kicks butt in the niche they've carved out for it.

This will be great for my 3 month North Pole Expedition!!!!

You just can't stand to have another handheld be better than yours in even the tiniest way, can you?

I find this funny. People are always using the battery factor against the PPCs. Now that this proves that claim even more, there are still those from with in the Palm commuity that have to joke about it.. What gives? I find more people complaining about their own Palms than PPC owners complain about their different PDAs.

Good job Handera

Palm owners can joke about battery life, PPC owners don't joke about it because they are afraid to mention it. I know from experience. A Palm owner mentioning battery life to a PPC owner is taboo, and will result in a dirty look or an immediate subject change. I do agree that HandEra is doing a great job, and I'd have the 330 right now if it was not for the color coded Excel sheets I have to use.

If they can do this...

If HandEra can do this, then why can't the battery life on the 505 be longer (not that I'm complaining about the 505 battery life, but if I can get a 6 week charge then it would be even better).

I didn't think this kinda battery technology existed yet. What's the catch?

It's called color and backlight.

It's also called a hella big battery! There's not another rechargeable PDA on the market with a Li-ion battery the size of FOUR AAA batteries. With such a comparitively large battery, it's not surprising that they're claiming "months" of use on a charge. Heck, even ONE month would be great considering the draw of frequent CF use, especially with CFIO cards like modems. I'm sure they mean just CF memory and SD memory as normal use, but still. I'm sure they'll sell nearly as many battery packs as they have Handera 330's. hehe.

It's big alright! Even the IIIc battery (which forced Palm to stretch the case) is a shrimp by comparison. Anyone know the electrical specs on this critter?

It's on the website, click the info (I) button. Sounds a tad optimistic to me, but perhaps if you're a light user. I don't see it as much better than alkalines, in terms of life.

Handera push all the right buttons.

It seems Handera is more attuned to the needs and wants of the Palm market. This Battery pack is not mass market but it fit a need. For one, it will make the Handera 330 much lighter. Their Handera330 beats the leaked specs of the Palm m125. No contest. All it need is a USB Connector.

And hi-res color.

Handera was never intended to have hi-res color. Does everything HAVE to be color? Some peeps just don't want to pay for it. The Handera rocks in price, market-niche and functionality because it is NOT hi-res color.
For my wallets sake, I hope they keep it that way.

You're right, not everyone needs color. Matter of fact, MOST people don't need color. Unfortunately, there are those who believe that monochrome devices should be banished, and they start thinking that way about 2 minutes AFTER they get a color device.

I still get my wife's modified IIIe once in a while just to look at it and use it (used to be mine, soon to be our son's after the wife gets her IIIxe). I miss it, but such is life...

It doesn't need USB either.

1. It doesn't need it for backup restore speed be backup restores from CF takes less than half a minute (and the you can hotsync the slight changes between the time of your last CF backup and your last hotsync if sooner). Essentially you just use it for 3rd party conduits.

2. If you have a lot of those conduits, you can get yourself an NE2000 compatible CF ethernet card, and blow the doors off any USB hotsync. There were even a sale recently on Kingston CF 10baseT cards for $16 that a lot of TrgPro and 330 users picked up. It'll be slower, but I'm holding out for CF 802.11b

They've done it!!
