Address Lines

ktran @ 1/9/2002 9:47:27 AM #
Hmmm...

This shows how much I'm out of touch with things... So did the original Dragonball have 24 address lines, like its M68000 ancestor? Does the 32 meg upgrade mean that the Visor Pro and Neo processors (VZ?) have the full 32-bit addressing capability, and can basically address up to 4 gigs?

anyway, it is a good news for all the palm os users....i'll love to have one of those 32MB machine... well...is that upgrade also applicable for Prism?

The VZ still only has a 24-bit address bus, but it has chip select lines that enable you to address 8 X 16MB blocks of memory (according to Motorola's site).

So, the question becomes... how does the OS know how to address this memory? I keep hearing different numbers for what the Palm OS can and cannot address -- what's the definitive answer?

Yeah, thanks for asking this question.

I was under the impression however that the EZ only supported 8MBs of RAM and the VZ 16MBs.

I will have to check the chip specs I guess.

Also, I think PalmOS can address as much RAM as the CPU can. Seems like the most reasonable asnwer to me.

Palming away.....

32MB and the m505?

I.M. Anonymous @ 1/9/2002 12:30:03 PM #
Since the m50x series is also VZ, is the 32MB upgrade coming for my m505?

16MB wasn't worth voiding the warranty over but 32MB is tempting!

I don't think there is enough space in the 505 body for a ram upgrade. I remember reading that a side effect of a edge upgrade is that the ram pushes against the screen and leaves a constant impression on it. Maybe thats why they don't offer it.

How about 32megs for the Sony Clie??

I.M. Anonymous @ 1/9/2002 3:15:48 PM #
If they can do 16 for Clie's and now 32 for Visor they should be able to do 32 also for the Clie but I hope they don't double the price, the upgrade price for the Clie is the highest.

Congrats, they just released an update for some Sony Clies, upgrading the memory to 32mb.

(Why do some people say you can kill two birds with one stone when it's hard enough killing one bird with two stones?)

Hardware Upgrader In UK

mrscarey @ 1/9/2002 6:29:46 PM #
Does anyone perform these upgrades in the UK?

I don't like the idea of sending my precious m505 out of my sight let alone to another continent.

It would also be good to get some of the other accessories that people like Good Guys etc sell over here too.

Any volunteers to bring my toys to me? ;)

Another example of cool stuff from the US which never gets to Europe or me.
