Comments on: Palm Offers Pre-Pre-orders for Wireless Handheld

Those who signed up with Palm Inc. to be notified when their new model was available have begun to get an email about it. It doesn't have any details on the new handheld and doesn't even mention a product name. However, the email does say that it is wireless and allows the recipient to sign up to purchase it when it becomes available, which the email only says will be "soon".

I always seem to get these e-mails from Palm almost a full day after they are mentioned here.

Expect people to buy without a clear spec?

I.M. Anonymous @ 1/24/2002 9:55:06 AM #
Expect you to buy something that you have no idea of the specs??? What are they doing? It has degraded into a petty small company that try to save itself via marketing tactics like this. First thing I would like to confirm (against the rumours) is: color? How much RAM? Always on? Voice?

> Expect you to buy something that you have no idea of the specs???

Did you read the whole article? You can't put any money down until AFTER the product launch. But if you already know you want one, Palm is doing the best it can to be sure you get one the first possible day. If you aren't sure yet, you can wait. That seems like a darn good way to handle a product launch.

Many people are happy with their VIIx, and are expecting a new model, some who doesnīt have a VIIx may also want a wireless Palm.

Stop the bashing !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The name of this site is Palm Infocenter. Itīs the best place to get information on new PalmOS products. Palm, Handspring and Sony (also HandEra) are selling well (you like it or not) because they have good products. Donīt think that consumers donīt know what they buy.

If you donīt have something positive to say, then go to a PPC or porn site...

The higher the hype, the higher the Expectations!
and this for sure wont work on the m700 since it has a few to offer.

Its like the harry potter movie

Remember the m505 preorder fiasco!
I.M. Anonymous @ 1/24/2002 10:59:51 AM #
Remember, "Preorder" to Palm means that you will get your handheld about two weeks after they start showing up at CompUSA, etc. It has never been any different.

Burned by 'reservations' on new products

MobileMitch @ 1/24/2002 10:58:55 AM #
Didn't a bunch of people who pre-ordered m505s wind up canceling the orders as Staples and other stores had them on the shelves before thiers even shiped?

RE: Burned by 'reservations' on new products
I.M. Anonymous @ 1/24/2002 11:11:32 AM #
All the people at Palm responsible for that were fired. Its almost a whole new crew there.

RE: Burned by 'reservations' on new products
jjsoh @ 1/24/2002 12:03:46 PM #
Yup. I was one of them.

I preordered through Palm as soon as saw the m505 on their site. Not to mention getting the run-around for more than a week after their official "launch" before ending up cancelling my order.

I finally ordered it through a small unknown company from upstate NY which sent it to me the next business day. Sad really.

I sure hope they pick up the slack this time around.

Yes I had mine preordered and canceled when Office Max had them the first day it was released and I picked one up.

I pre-ordered the m505 with accessories, but when I heard about the crappy backlighting and screen I immediately cancelled.

Still happy with my Palm Vx.

All the people responsible were fired huh? Why are these new handhelds showing up at CompUSA's, then?

investors, beware!!!

I.M. Anonymous @ 1/24/2002 11:22:19 AM #
Hopefully investors are watching this site carefully, with the recent remarks against Microsoft and the new "hot" products that Palm is coming out with, oh and the spinoff of the software division. It seems that Palm is flailing, and they are just waiting to be scooped up by someone (SONY???). Why is it that anyone associated with 3COM can't realize a sinking ship when they see one???

Does it have to deal with anything about the i-705? You may have too much to bash. The bashing is even off-topic.

Sigh....

Hey, buddy, "www.palm-can-do-no-wrong.com" is probably available. Why don't you go over there and start up your own cheerleading forum if you can't stand to see negative comments about your beloved Palm.

RE: investors, beware!!!
montyburns @ 1/24/2002 12:18:21 PM #
Dude, I have no problem with people having negative or positive comments to say about Palm and the Palm platform.

But to spout an off topic post unrelated to the subject at hand bugs me.

I'll let you know when I get my website up, ok? ;-)

I like my Palm!

What's the *?

ahecht @ 1/24/2002 3:59:51 PM #
The confirmation email says "You'll be one of the first in the country to own the brand new wireless Palm handheld!*", but what does the asterisk lead to?

RE: What's the *?
I.M. Anonymous @ 1/24/2002 4:41:28 PM #
* After people at Best Buy, CompUSA, Office Depot, Fry's, and Circut City get theirs.

RE: What's the *?
I.M. Anonymous @ 1/24/2002 5:21:12 PM #
LMAO!

RE: What's the *?
I.M. Anonymous @ 1/25/2002 12:07:06 AM #
I just got the email myself, and the * specifies which country is being reffered to. The exact quote is:
"* This product offer is only valid for U.S. shipments."

Didn't get the e-mail

I.M. Anonymous @ 1/25/2002 5:58:53 PM #
Did everyone get this e-mail? I signed up on this list a week ago or so but haven't heard anything. It's probably better getting it from Staples if they throw in that keyboard.
