Comments on: Quickies: T625C, T-Series Bug, HanDBase

Dabs.com in the U.K. is now taking pre-orders for the Sony T625C. The price is £316.07, or £269 without VAT. Availability is advertised as 3-4 weeks. -Gordon Jones

Last week, the "auto shut off" fix for Sony's T series was incorrectly described as being for an infrared-related problem. According to a Sony engineer, it is actually a fix for a rare issue where the Clié is not able to power off after a hard reset. This goes for both automatically shutting off and manually pressing the power button. To get the patch, go to Sony's Support page then click on "Updates" for the specific model. -Ed

When will HanDBase offer VFS support?

I.M. Anonymous @ 2/1/2002 8:16:07 AM #
I like this software, I'd just like to move the databases to an SD card.

You can't put the databases in the "PiDirect" folder when you use PI's software, either (Which is understandable, considering that they are databases). Databases can get huge in a hurry. it would be nice to access them from a Memory card.

Hi,
We are working on adding VFS support for V3.0 of HanDBase, currently in development. Wish I had a date to give you, but don't at this point. Hope this info helps!

Thanks,

Infrared Problem

LeshMan @ 2/1/2002 9:18:35 AM #
Well, I think it might have something to do with the IR port. My friend got a 615C and could not send or recieving items via the IR port until the patch was installed. The Clie would do nothing whenever he hit "Beam", and he couldn't recieve anything sent through IR.

I am still having beam problems and I have the patch installed. Plus, my silk screen keyboard is off a bit-I have to tap below the mark to get the keyboard to pop up. Very annoying...

I had the same problem as above. I would hit beam and nothing would happen. I installed the patch and it works great. Oh well, whatever the patch is my T615 is working the way it should. I'm happy with my new Clié.

It's been pretty confusing. You might have noticed this is the third "quickie" on this patch. I got an email yesterday from the head of Sony's PR team telling me the previous articles were incorrect about what this patch is for and asking me to change it. He also had a Sony engineer send me a description of the bug being fixed, much of whose email I used to write the description above. That's just about all I know about it.

Because a SOFT RESET is performed to install this patch the IR started working. A soft reset is commonly used to cure this type of problem.

Palming away.....

Unfortunately neither a SOFT nor a hard reset solved the problem. We tried everything possible and then checked the support site in hopes that there would be something to help with the problem. Even though the patch did not mention his specific issue, he installed it anyway, and it fixed his issue.

I had actually been hit by the T-Series bug mentioned above. I have posted my case in another thread. Below is a repost of the message:

RE: Irc Library(v.1.1)Update?

I bought a T415 on Jan 5. I am using IR HotSync and did not experience any problem.

Yesterday I have had a crash when viewing a large map (London tube downloaded from memoware) around 300K in size on my T415 using FireViewer 6.0. I had to do a hard reset to recover from the crash. After the hard reset I spent around half an hour to restore everything from my notebook using IR HotSync, then I noticed that the T415 could not be powered off. Pressing the Power switch, tapping on the 'power off' menu item, or let the unit auto power-off itself all caused the unit to go through a soft reset. I remembered the SONY patch out there and downloaded it and had it applied. Apparently the above problem was resolved by this action.

Not sure if anybody out there had encountered similar problem.

The update from SONY today confirmed my suspicion.

Has anyone had a problem with beaming with the Sony CLIEs? It seems that certain 3rd party apps can interfere with beaming. Any ideas?

I"m having the same problem. If I do a hard reset, it will beam, but when I load my old stuff from the Palm Vx
it won't beam anymore. I'm trying to see what program is doing it. Sony support is of absolutely no help.
Is that patch ircloader from sony any good? Maybe I'll try that next. Let me know if YOU find anything out...

T625c

sbabcock @ 2/1/2002 11:56:37 AM #
How does the T625 differ from the T615?
Is it German only? Why not use the T615 name?

RE: T625c
I.M. Anonymous @ 2/1/2002 6:30:01 PM #
U.K. stands for "United Kingdom", not for "Germany"...
I think it has an english version of the PalmOS, but maybe there are little differences for the European market...
Who knows ?

Hmm......

Do you have installed things like Afterburner or FastCPU? I had to slow the speed to 44 MHz......

Maybe this will solve the question.....
