Rumor: The Palm m515 will be released in Singapore on March 5. The price will be S$840 (Singapore dollars), which is similar to the m505's price when first launched. -Ed

Every year Power Media sells their test equipment (Palm OS devices, Handspring Modules, and much more) via their web page on a first-come-first-serve basis. The list includes products that Power Media purchased to test hardware and software compatibility or proof of concept on new products. -Brad Simms

Power Media Garage Sale

I.M. Anonymous @ 3/1/2002 9:18:08 AM #
Power Media has some OK prices, but nothing too spectacular. You could probably get the same prices on eBay.

One thing I don't understand is their Clie T615. If they buy these products to test them out with their software/hardware/whatever, why are they selling this Clie in a New, SEALED box? Did they not even bother using it?

don't need all the units bought
I.M. Anonymous @ 3/1/2002 9:34:50 AM #
On the sealed items, they are units that PMI bought multi units of from two different departments. We go through at the end of every Feb and pull anything that was outside the allowed quantities. This wont be the case next year, but this year there are sealed units that we wont need to open. Simms

You must be joking. I've never gotten a good deal on eBay. It's a great place to sell stuff but all the time I see items where the bidding has been driven up over the retail price!!

Seriously? I'm not that big an eBayer, but I've sold about 3 items there, and been disappointed with the bids I got. I've also bought about 10 items that were wayyy below the retail price.

Their prices are nothing to write home about! In fact, their price for the Advent wireless speakers is higher than other retail places I've seen!

Ditto to the $$$ comment ... eBAY may prove to be a much better bargain than these prices. IMHO

While this may be true that you can get a better price on Ebay, you may also waste four days of your time bidding on a product that you don't win. With this PMI site, you just buy it for their reasonable prices and walk away happy.
I have bid on four Cisco 678 routers in the past two weeks and have won none of them. That is several hours of my life wasted. I like Ebay, but sometimes it is nice just to be able to BUY something.

Treo Button Also Changes Opt + button

Just as important as the Flip, TreoButton also lets you customize the Option + Button for the 4 main app buttons. Absolutely essential.

I.M. Anonymous @ 3/1/2002 9:43:29 AM #
Where in Singapore will the m515 supposedly be available? Looking to place a reservation on it.

Bad choice of guy on the box. He looks scared to death - like a deer caught in the headlights! I hope the product is good though!

So MFS, what are your observations thus far? Are you impressed? Anything else new vs. the m505 except sidelighting, 16MB? Any new bundled software? Is Palm Desktop updated?

RE: m515 in US
mfs @ 3/1/2002 2:36:14 PM #
Its just an 505 with a brighter side light and 16MB of ram. The black grid is still visible on the screen and the white background has a slight tint. The T615 has the best whites and blacks I have seen yet. Besides that the colors are nice. Nothing really new. I have not installed the software yet. its still sealed.

I wonder if there is a new improved Desktop 4.1.

Just picked mine up, too. The Pleasanton, CA CompUSA has them. You have to ask for them to get it from the warehouse but they did sell it to me. Cost was $399.

Palm Users: this thing rates 5 out of 5 stars.
Sony Users: this thing doesn't support 320x320 so it is worthless. Plus, Palm hasn't adopted your "creative" button design either. 1 out of 5 stars.

The screen is nice and noticably brighter, as advertised. That's about the only thing anyone need concern themselves with.

The "colored" NotePad application isn't really. It just replaces black ink and instead uses blue ink (same color as the default blue menu colors). It is version 1.7 (1.1 came with my m505).

Haven't installed the software yet.

I think this is a good summary. I bought an m515 at CompUSA in VA today. I've owned a Palm V, Vx and Visor Prism, and today I compared a 515 and Sony 615.

The Sony has a nicer screen for viewing pictures. The 515 screen is roughly as bright as the 615, and the colors are about equal. I think the Prism has better color than both, but it's screen loses visibility at an angle and in sunlight. Overall both the 515 and 615 have a more usable screen than the Prism. The Prism has the better color, but it isn't usable in all lighting and at all angles.

The 615 screen is (to me) slightly better overall than the 515 b/c of the resolution, but color and brightness are equal. However, I really don't use anything that heavily depends on resolution. I use calendar, contact, database lookup, email, etc.... I don't read a lot of text, I don't use pictures, etc.... Thus to me the 615 screen's advantage really isn't significant (in DateBk4 the two are equal in my mind, for example).

That leaves form factor and accessories. The former goes to the 515 for me b/c of the buttons. I just can't handle the 615's buttons for quick access.

Accessories benefit the 515 also. I already have a cellular cable for the 515 (fits a 505 also), and when Verizon carries a bluetooth phone that I like I know the 515 will have a bluetooth sd card (b/c it's there today).

So net, if you care about graphics/pictures the Sony is a better choice. If you care about apps that can work well in a 160x160 screen, form factor and accessories the 515 is better.

I posted a couple of side by side pictures of the m515 and T615. See my link above. As for "when Verizon carries a bluetooth phone". I think the carry the Motorola 270 which has a bluetooth option. Check it out.

Too bad you left the protector on the screen when making pictures. Would love to see comparison pics without this protector.

Okay, here we go again!!,

NOBODY was bashing nobody in this thread until you posted. And then Palm users (like me) complain that Sony users are always bragging around. Now I see why.
jeez!, what a dick

Your right, the 270 has bluetooth with the add on module, but I'm hoping one day it will be available in something the size of the v60c.

Great pictures.

Great picks of the m515. As a m505 owner, I can't see any reason to upgrade. I'll wait for Palm or someone to come out with SD expansion and the 320 x 320 screen. After all, I now carry my family pictures on my SD chip instead of the old bulky wallet method. It would be great to show pictures of people that are further than 3 feet away.

m515 would be $449 if it wasn't for Sony

I.M. Anonymous @ 3/2/2002 12:00:23 PM #
We can thank Sony for one thing, the Palm m515 would be priced at $449 if it wasn't for Sony being able to offer the jog-dialed, hi-res, speakered T615 for $399. No way could Palm charge $50 more for less features. And that is the bottom line FEATURES. And the T615 has three BIG features - jog dial, high-res, and speaker that the Palm m515 does not. I plan to get the m515 but I have no choice due to Win95/USB issues on a corporate laptop (no serial CRADLE available for T615C).
