Comments on: Developers Move to Support Hi-Res+ Screen (Updated)

Since Sony introduced the NR series, many developers have announced that they will offer versions of their applications that support the 320 by 480 screen with virtual Graffiti.

The latest to do so is Red-Mercury with AcidImage 1.2, which also supports the HandEra 330 hi-res screen and regular monochrome screens, too. AcidImage can view images taken with the NR70V's built-in camera and has other new features. It is $12.

DateBk5 is also considering support 320x480 screen

I.M. Anonymous @ 5/16/2002 11:52:54 AM #
A post of CESD in Yahoo!pimlicodatebk group suggested that he is considering supporting the virtual graffiti area of several devices in a maintainence release of DateBk5, including Sony NR70/V, Handera 330 and Samsung PalmOS phone. No Date was given though.

Cool! The resolutions need to be supported would be 320x480, 240x320 and 160x240 for those devices.

iambic - half hearted

Ou_Boet @ 5/16/2002 12:38:48 PM #
Just to clarify, iamic do not support the HandEra 330. Their applications don't use the HE hi-rs screen or virtualy grafitti area. :(

OB

Any device can have one more useful feature added.

Duh! That's why Ed posted Hi-Res+. It means the hi-res on the NR and not on the Handera.

Duh! The article originally said Iambic supported hi-res on the HandEra 330. The original poster was only correcting that statement, and it now seems to be corrected in the article.

Typo Ed?

popko @ 5/16/2002 12:45:06 PM #
"... they will offer versions of this applications ..."

Huh? Or did you ment to say THIER APPLICATIONS.

RE: Typo Ed?
I.M. Anonymous @ 5/16/2002 12:48:45 PM #
Typo popko?

THIER should actually be THEIR. Don't be so quick to point out a minor mistake next time without double-checking yourself...

RE: Typo Ed?
I.M. Anonymous @ 5/16/2002 12:56:32 PM #
Popko, it's good when you point out significant typos that might confuse people trying to read the articles. But some of the ones you point out, like this one, are nit-picking. Ed wrote the wrong word but what difference does it make? I didn't even notice it until you pointed it out.

If it really bothers you, write Ed an email. Adding it as a comment makes it look like you are showing off how good your editing skills are.

RE: Typo Ed?
I.M. Anonymous @ 5/16/2002 6:31:51 PM #
And then how dumb you are to type an error yourself. I agree, we don't really need these kinds of nitpicks in the comments section.

Why don't we let Ed give his view on this?
Many times i come across typos and i'm double minded about letting Ed know since i'm not sure whether he appreciates it. The previous poster made a good point, if the the typo does not bare any significant difference to the conveyed message, sould it be addressed or corrected at all?
However it is pleasing to read an article free from grammatically and spelling errors which in turn makes a professional difference for PIC.
Ed.....?

Silver Screen 2.6.6 supports hires+

purplemd @ 5/16/2002 1:34:17 PM #
It wasn't clearly stated on the update at PalmGear...in fact, the PalmGear site didn't even indicate that the program had been updated.

But the latest version does allow you to collapse the graffiti area! At 66 MHz...it runs fast enough to be usable.

I.M. Anonymous @ 5/16/2002 1:54:53 PM #
I only see 2.6, not 2.6.6. And Pocketsenesi doesn't mention 320x480 support either.

purplemd @ 5/16/2002 2:46:45 PM #
Dude! I indicated that it was NOT clearly stated! I'd say, "Try it and see," but there's been reports of a bug which causes the system to crash if you run apps off the memory stick.

I emailed PocketSensei, so it will probably be fixed fairly soon!

Ronin @ 5/16/2002 9:09:46 PM #
SilverScreen 2.7 has been posted on PalmGear with "HiRes+" support.

Get it while its hot!

JDub @ 5/17/2002 5:59:43 AM #
That's strange...i just went there and they were still listing 2.6.5...

What gives?

Cheers,

JDub.

RE: Silver Screen 2.6.6 supports hires+
Ed @ 5/17/2002 10:29:14 AM #
Pocket Sensei has withdrawn 2.7 until a problem with accessing applications on memory cards causing fatal errors has been fixed.

WordSmith 2.1.5

Ronin @ 5/16/2002 3:14:50 PM #
WordSmith with NR support has been posted on PalmGear today.

RE: WordSmith 2.1.5
I.M. Anonymous @ 5/16/2002 10:37:48 PM #
How do you get Wordsmith to use the grafitti area on the NR70vI can't figure out how to make it use the full screen. But I am new to Wordsmith altogether. Can someone who has upgraded tell me to get it to use the NR70s full screen.
RE: WordSmith 2.1.5
I.M. Anonymous @ 5/16/2002 10:51:25 PM #
I figured it out and feel stupid. I kept thinking I needed to adjust the display or preference settings inside the program. It was just a matter of clicking on the down arrow at the bottom of the grafitti area. Duh!

Unbelievable

stephen007 @ 5/16/2002 10:11:07 PM #
It's amazing... I've been using a Palm powered device for over five years now. I've always taken the graffiti area for granted. It's just how things are supposed to be in my mind. You're always supposed to have a graffiti area.

I just got the latest versions of Acid Image, Wordsmith, Silver Screen and TinySheet. I just can't believe it. I was blown away at what Sony did with the NR70. It is truly wonderful! 320 x 320 in bright, crisp, rich color with a collapsable graffiti area. I'm as excited now as I was the first time I opened the box on my dear old PalmPilot 5000.

Goodbye old graffiti area, you treated me well.

Helloooo full screen apps!

Stephen

Meanwhile back at the ranch us HAndera 33o once again take it in the ass. There is exactly one friggin PalmOS device with that screen resolution and these dickhead developers are falling all over each other to support hi-res+. Yet the Handera 330 has been out over a year and there are but a handful of programs that support it. This is total bull****...
RE: Unbelievable
I.M. Anonymous @ 5/18/2002 7:46:47 AM #
I've never had problems finding quality hi-res apps for the HandEra 330. Most all of the apps listed above support it, and there are plenty of others. The Sony folks are still waiting for the built in apps to support hi-res, something the 330 has had since day one.

My Week Supports Hi-Res+ Screen

jimski @ 5/17/2002 2:40:32 PM #
My Week (Ver 1.9) now supports the 320 x 480 screen format. It remembers what format you used last and returns to that screen size each time you open the app.

With appointments and to do's on the same screen, this added real estate makes viewing my week a whole lot easier.

Why not Docs to Go?!

I.M. Anonymous @ 5/17/2002 3:24:54 PM #
I'm absolutely baffled by the fact that Sony would include Docs to Go with my new (and already beloved) nr70, but that Docs to Go doesn't support hi res+. What were they thinking?
RE: Why not Docs to Go?!
I.M. Anonymous @ 5/17/2002 7:03:52 PM #
They are probably thinking that CLIE will have another non-standard screen resolution soon and that it's better for them to wait until Sony makes up it's mind. CLies now have 3 different resolutions, which must be driving developers nuts.
RE: Why not Docs to Go?!
I.M. Anonymous @ 5/18/2002 6:12:52 AM #
I doubt it's DataViz's fault. The NR70V probably was rushed to market, since obviously not even the Sony engineers had much time to add 320x480 support to the in-house applications.

NR-70V support

PIC mobile user @ 5/20/2002 2:09:02 AM #
where can I find some more apps. that support hi-res+ display?

Mapopolis Supports NR-70 HighRes

JStraub @ 10/1/2002 3:57:52 AM #
FYI, Mapopolis supports the HighRes++ (480x320) screen of the Clie NR-70/NR-70V. By clicking on the arrow button, you can retract the graffiti area, and view the map in that area as well ...
