Why Does Landware Direct You to the Spring 2002 Download?

I.M. Anonymous @ 8/20/2002 10:49:27 AM #
After attempting to upgrade my Wine Guide, I noticed that Landware's download pointed to the Spring 2002 edition - not the Summer 2002. I have emailed them to ask if the upgrade is correct, or is the upgrade page pointing to the wrong download. Watch out before installing!

Follow your link through until you actually get to the download. It states Spring 2002. :(

We are correcting the page text now. The download is the correct Summer Guide however.

Sorry about that. The web guy has been taken out back and flogged.

JPG attachments!!

I wish they had this software available right now. I hate getting a picture in my mail from a friend and having to wait till I get to my desktop to see it. I know I'll put down the cash for snappermail.

I'll be glad when someone makes a utlity that can convert a Word document to WordSmith or Quickword format ON THE PALM. I don't want to have to pay a monthly fee to convert on someone else's email server.

To my understanding THATS exactly whats in the pipeline for SnapperMail . We have to wait if Snappermail delivers what they promised. If they do so, it will change the way how most of us use a Palm. It will be a breakthrough. If...

Sorry - I forgot: JPEG and Quickword documents are alredy now converted ON THE PALM without going over a server.

Sorry, not true. Look at their technical spec and you'll see that it says "MS Word (Quickword + Conversion companion)" I went to Cutting Edge's site to find out more about Conversion Companion and it is a service that does the conversions on an email server, not on the handheld.

Sorry - your mistaken - I have not looked at the spec but tested the beta firsthand.

It not only converts JPEG but Quickworld files as well
everybody can prove this on his own Palm currently for free - or look at:

You guys are all idiots! wake up! There is nothing specially about snappermail. It is just a dumb email client that can receive attachments and apparently display jpg. Big Freaking deal. I can get multiMail to that right now and save the .jpg to the card and have a program like jpgViewer to view it.

If snapperMail can read .doc, excel, .bmp, .gif, .png, etc.. then it will be a good emailer.

Technically your simply bad informed – similar to your manners which apparently seems to be in need of some polishing.

Your tone seems evidently more to stem from a hurt SnapperMail competitor then from a technical minded and sober interested PIC visitor.

Anyhow - be informed my friend, that Snappermai will meet the requirements you mentioned – a part of them of them when it will be released - the missing part shortly after that.

And please - do not flame people just because the use the right of free expression - it is (still a free country after all - isn’t it?
By the way – I filed the test-report myself for the completely independent, premium PDA orientated magazine in Europe and I stand by my word.
We are not engaged in any way commercially with Snappermail – neither does Snappermail advertise (we are a advertisement free publication) with us.

Boris,

Do you see anyway to have your review also in English so that we can have a better feel about your views on this interesting product ?

I am sure many English Palm related sites will be more than happy to host your article.

Thank you for your interesting idea!

Palmtop-Pro is currently a German language only magazine - but plans on the long run to move to the US.

Their capabilities do not allow to translate the magazine into English at the very moment - sorry.
But they decently hope that there are enough educated & language savvy people around in the US - are there?

The closest thing to an English review I can find is by translating this German review with Google:

How many wine guides do we need?

I.M. Anonymous @ 8/21/2002 10:47:43 AM #
How many wine guides do we need for the Palm? I guess there are more techie wine drinkers (or perhaps winos) than I initially thought.

FYI:

Just because you have a handheld, does not make you a techie.

It also seems like this Wine Guide has been out for a while and they are announcing a free update.

What SJ-20 launch?! Its a paper launch for now

I.M. Anonymous @ 8/21/2002 10:05:13 PM #
I don't know why Sony and the PDA press seems to keep insisting that the Sony SJ-20 was released on Monday. Well if it was how come you cannot find or buy it anywhere now?! I tried Fry's, CompUSA, Circuit City etc but none of them have it for now (wait couple of weeks they say). Heck they don't even have a display model. Yeah yeah sure you can order it on Sony's site but even they themselves say that it will not ship before 8/28. So please what kind of release is this? Paper lauch for sure. All the PDA journos get to play with it but no mere mortal can get it anywhere now for sure. Pray enlighten me how is this a release if you cannot get it. You can only see pretty pictures of it thats all.
