Comments on: Sony Clie NX80 and NX73 Price Drop

Sony has lowered the price of it's high end clamshell handhelds. Both the NX80V and NX73V price tags have been lowered by $50. The NX70 has also been discontinued.

Two questions:
- how far (range) does the capture light illuminate?
- can you capture video with the NX80?

the capture light works for about a foot and a half, not that much more, yes you can record video clips to a memorystick

I think it will be the NX-85 with 128Mb of RAM (11 Megs Usable), 400 MHz processor (200 MHz usable, and a 640x480 screen (320x480 Usable).

Actually, the new AF series will have a screen more revolutionary than the T3! You can twist it in HALF and have TWO 320x320 screens. Each screen can then be a SEPARATE PDA due to the dual MX1 CPUs Sony will be using.

This way to the egress...

This is realy interesting, a PDA cluster. Like making a wide screeen of various PDA's togeder. Do anyone have enough time to kill in such project? (maybe enough money to burn?)

The *coolest* feature about the dual-screen AF is that you can wear them in a new Glasstron(tm) frame (optional accessory) thus getting a virtual 3D screen with a viewing image equivalent to a 75" Plasma HDTV display.

In conjunction with a new bluetooth JogFinger(tm) (optional accessory), you can interact with the image using gestures (similar to using a touch screen).

The downside is that the AF is going to cost $2999 and the optional accessories are $299 each. Still, I'm gonna preorder ;o)

Even at those prices the NX73 & 80 are still priced at least $50 too high. They should retail for $399 and $499, respectively.

I kept an eye on Dell for a couple weeks, and got my NX80 for $470 - so I guess I did okay! :)

In the UK the NX73 (with Bluetooth) is sold around the same price as the T3 online. I guess I went for the T3 because of the much faster processor and larger memory. Sony needs to price the NX73 below the T3 in order to gain people's attention.

Even with the $50 drop, you're STILL paying for the Sony Name, making these handhelds unaffordable to a degree. I'd rather have a PalmOne-branded Handheld and placed an Add-On on my Wish List.

If you need a Sony Handheld, though, I'd go for nothing less than the UX-50, in spite of the Landscape-Only Screen. The NZ90 is also a good device, but is just overpriced.
