Palm OS 6 Will Be Finished In Late December
Posted By: Ryan on Tuesday, September 23, 2003 2:51:30 PM

PalmSource has announced at its developer seminar, currently under way in Munich, that Palm OS 6, code-named Sahara, will be complete by December 29th.

http://www.palminfocenter.com/view_story.asp?ID=5992

Will there be an announcement, or are they still in a Quiet Period? Hello, Michael Mace?

I have to tell you, I've decided to *skip* OS 5 and the TT3. I've extended the life of my ratty mono CLIE S320 by getting a fatter MStick and a battery extender (the styluses I bought off ebay were not as advertised and are going back.... grrr!).

Having seen that *hp* can get BT *and* WiFi into that itty-bitty 41xx form factor -- well, what's palmOne's excuse *NOT* to do so?

Despite the net stock crash, I'm *still* on Internet Time -- and the TT3 looks long in the tooth to me already (my S320 is antediluvian!).

Give me that and OS 6 and I'll upgrade.

BS - I don't buy it. You're one of those people. Those people who won't be satisfied unless God came down and gave you his own. Warm up your stylus. You'll be using that 320 for a long, long time.

Mike is going to buy a WM2k4 device once it hit $299. hah. It'll be something with VGA, probably no wireless, in late next year.

Next year will be all about screen baby, that OS 6.0 better be really good or it'll be game over for palm.

Ska is going to stop coat-tailing my posts in '04. At least I hope so.

Yeah, neither outlandish prediction will really happen, will they?

more likely to happen than your prediction of Sony becoming #1.

enjoy Palm's last moments, because by the end of next year, Palm will be irrelevant. It will be selling only low end $99 zires and one or two $399 models. Last itch to servive.

TASKA,

Do you then have a Short position on Palmone? If not, you losing massive profits. Anyone can post confidently to a message board. Real confidence will put your $$$ where your mouth is.

If Palmone is dead in 12 months, then surely your gonna get rich off it?

No. PDAs without WiFi are dead meat.

** Paging Michael Mace! **

We're coming up to the Deadline, Mace!

Is OS6 in its final stages? Or is it still a Death March to the deadline? Or have all of you already gotten drunk on cheap champagne in celebration, drunkenly screaming, "Make sure to post on PIC to shut up that ^%$#@ Cane character!!"??

My guess is we can expect an eleventh hour release, probably as the ball drops in NY :-). Crowds will be chanting "Happy New Year", while we shout "Happy New OS". I hate these PR word games. Late is late no matter how you spin it. Either way it doesn't really matter since, unless some miracle takes place, we still won't be getting our hands on any OS6 hardware until early spring...which is traditionally the time and place for new hardware releases to begin.

Come on, Mike (Mace)...throw us a bone. What's going on over there at PalmSource?

This reminds me of that classic episode of Superman, where Clark Kent or Superman sets up a silhouette of himself to fool someone holding a hostage or bomb or something, and there's a tape recorder repeating Kent's/Superman's line, which is something like, "No comment until the time limit is up."

You find it:

Heard Palm OS 6 was actually a few days early but can't tell you who told me.

Doesn't matter though because it goes to licensees, not us. PalmSource is home for the holidays.

BTW, palmOne doesn't make the OS any more so the survival of the OS doesn't correspond one-to-one with the success of palmOne.

Except that palmOne is the biggest licensee and spills the most bucks into PSource's coffers...
