ordered mine...

Now that they have my credit card info, I'll be the last on the list... Oh well... It's all about the screen for me. I read 4 to 8 novels a month on my Treo600. I think my eyes are worth the $600. Besides when my wife inherits the 600 she may actually check her email once in a while.

The Treo 650 is a brilliant design

The_Voice_of_Reason @ 11/8/2004 6:00:24 PM #
This phone deserves to do well. And it might just save Palm provided the phones are built better than the Treo 600 was. I've heard Palm is using a better manufacturer this time, so it appears they've learned their lesson.

I hope the next revision will:

- have 128 MB of real RAM (no more NAND Flash, please!)
- ditch the stupid external antenna (my T608 gives better reception than any phone I've ever used and doesn't have an external antenna. This is 2004, guys - we don't need no stinkin' external antennas!)
- use a landscape screen like the Sony Ericsson P910
- be a little smaler + lighter

Other than that, Palm appears to have created the perfect smartphone design. Well done!

Reason: Antenna's that stick out work *measurably* better.

But why can't the antenna be collapsible? That way you can extend it when needed.

the Treo 650 is much better designed than the Treo 600.

as a user of a Treo 600 for well over 18 months; everything i found complaints about with the 600 have been remedied with the Treo 650. it now has BT (everyone wants that), the 320x320 high res screen (makes a big difference when surfing) and the new camera simply outdoes *many* camera phones on the market. coupled with the new email reader; supporting POP, IMAP and microsoft exchange - it'll suit many people's needs.

its even better to have one in your hand - and, to carry it around daily and compare it against the Treo 600. i have many friends who use the SE-P900/910 and they are even considering the Treo 650 after seeing it "in action". unfortunately, it wont be available in europe for quite some time; and, the price point is definately going to be up there against the SE-P900/910. competition will be good.

I was wondering about the battery life of this product. Is the Bluetooth technology going to affect this?

Preorder? Hahahahahahahaha!

SeldomVisitor @ 11/9/2004 5:45:55 AM #
I like that new marketing term "preorder" - it sounds so...so...so...official and proper!

Yet an order is an order is an order no matter what the Marketdroids think up (as they hop foot from foot giggling whenever they read their term "preorder" out in the world).

What's a "preorder" anyway?

Well...it's an order with delayed shipping. REALLY delayed shipping.

Oh.

"Preorder".

Lol!

I'm the proud preowner of this new unit! I have to say, it will be more than I ever expect! I'm really pre-enjoying the functionality of this device.

Stop your laughing, SeldomVisitor - the Treo 650 should easily be the smoothest rollout EVER for a Treo. (Yeah, I know that's not saying much...)

Seriously, I doubt Palm will run into more inventory problems this time around. They have a decent manufacturer, have had plenty of time to prepare for the launch and now know exactly what to expect. They also realize the Treo 650 could easily become their high profit smash hit, unseen since the Palm Vx, so they won't be screwing up on this one. I predict that by July, 2005 Palm will be making more profits from Treo sales than from sales of all of Palm's other models combined.

The Treo 650 is gonna be HUGE!

I also ordered on the 9th about 5pm. I have not received a ship notice. Did you order a new plan? or just the phone? what time did you order.

TREO BETA VERSION

Tuckermaclain @ 12/15/2004 9:09:33 AM #
I got my Treo 650 and spent about 20 frustrating hours trying to get my software onto it w/o crashing. I threw in the towel after a hard reset to restart the process the umpteenth time, it crashed after I beamed an event from my Z72 datebook. From one proprietary app to another. Apparently PalmOne has some significant patch on this one (and the T5) that has some bugs in it. Pimlico software makes mention of it in their DB5 area, and has developed a special workaround for it until Palm fixes it. I am torqued. I am not a beta tester. This is Palm's biggest screw-up since the m505 preorder fiasco. After >10 Palm devices purchased at release I am fed up. Where is the new Sony device?
