Using this card in a Centro

Marshall Flinkman @ 2/13/2008 10:19:14 PM # Q
I've been reading mixed things on how well a card larger than 4 GB will work in a Centro. (I have an 8 GB SDHC card in my 680, am planning to get a GSM Centro, and would like to get an 8 GB MicroSDHC card for that.)

I've read some things that say it won't recognize memory beyond the 4 GB limit at all, and some that say it'll list 4 GB in Card Info but read the whole card. Can someone set this straight?

Enough already?

OK, so we have a small issue here now that PIC is *selling* SDs. Now *personally* the reason that I would go to say, PalmInfoCenter over anywhere else as a consumer is because I WANT SOMETHING THAT WORKS WITH MY PALM.

The happens *every* post. What is the *only* thing you cover?... That's right. Palm! So I have a *small* sugestion. Why don't you (PIC) as a *service* to novice customers and readers that really can't take many more of these threads, create a *chart* that you either *include* or link to that lets you know if it works with your Palm(TM) (And you need only include Palm branded devices.) Just including the *max* allowable size would future proof it, but a little indicator of the type of slot the model has would be a bonus. Then this thread can die, new people don't have to ask questions, and your customers can shop here can feel that you add value.

I can go elsewhere, buy things cheaper and get "Not all devices support microSDHC 8GB cards. Please contact your device manufacturer for details. To ensure compatibility, look for the microSDHC logo on the product or packaging of your new phone or PDA." or the like. Give all of us a break. Please.

I'm actually working on a info matrix sort of thing for PIC (or attempting to work if everything and everyone would stop conspiring against me) that lists the expansion card capabilities of EVERY Palm device to the best of my available knowledge.

And yes, it will note both the "official" spec and any unsupported "unofficial" hacks/tweaks/work-arounds whenever they may exist.

I agree with you. I strive to include as much compatibility and information about products and software as I can when posting articles like this. The store will even limit its catalogue to only show you compatible products when you select your device and has a clear compatibilty section that outlines this information by devices.

However with new, bleeding edge stuff such as this card, without it in my hands to test I can't be totally positive so we have to rely on what the manufactures and device makers say. For this card I am not 100% but it should work with the Treo 500. The Centro may be compatible, but Palm OS has a lot of trouble with anything over 4gb so I would hold off. The PIC store does have a unconditional 30-day guarantee on all accessories, so if one did purchase something that turned out to now be compatible we would most likely issue a full refund.
