Comments on: Garmin iQue 3000 Slightly Delayed

I wager it's never going to officially come out. The whole stock is probably sitting in a warehouse somewhere. Garmin likely figures they'll take a beatng on returns of unsold inventory etc. So they are probably trying to work out an agreeent to blow 'em out on their website or somewhere like Amazon or Overstock for a 1/3rd less than the original MSRP amount.

No Palm rumors whatsoever, no new Treos until midsummer and now even the Garmin iQue refresh is delayed. What a deplorable year for the POS faithful so far!!

Fossil bailed. You have Palm and that's it as far as anyone shipping anything in ANY volume.

Garmin has been reported to be shutting down their Palm-based R&D after the 3000, but whether or not that's true, they're still making their current Palm based units.

I can't fathom why they went with MicroSD. The GPS components really aren't that large at all, certainly not enough to force that kind of change.

Maybe a nice little $ incentive from Sandisk?

(Shrug) Not impossible. Favorable licensing terms + volume discount on small bundled cards for Garmin = increase in marketshare for Sandisk. Can't say I'm thrilled--I managed to lose my 1 GB SD card not too long ago, and I don't want to speculate how easy it would be to misplace a MSD card. Or how easy it would be to accidently inhale it, for that matter.

It's basically just a 3200 in a smaller, sleeker casing isn't it?

Pretty much, with the exception of small details (MicroSD instead of SD) and the inclusion of a memory card.

From my hastily compiled list it looks like the original is still the "best". Anyone care to help flesh out the comparison table?

In all fairness, I still think the 3000 (assuming it ever makes it to market) is pretty niftily styled and looks far more pocketable than either of its predecessors. Garmin and Palm both seem to have caught a bad case of "feature erosion" where their '06 models have far fewer bells'n whistles than the '03 models!

Drawbacks of the iQue 3600:

No SDIO slot

No 5-way navigator

Drawbacks of the iQue 3200:

No voice recorder

Only 320*320

No headphone jack

No 5-way navigator
(the 3200, oddly enough, has an SDIO slot)

Smaller battery than 3600??

No Universal Connector (uses mini-USB & AC--like a cheap Zire!)
