Palm Treo 650 as a USB modemIs your Bluetooth DUN crippled? Or do you not have bluetooth on your laptop and you'd like to use your Treo 650 as a wireless modem? USB Modem is a new application from Mobile Stream that enables the Palm Treo 650 to be used as a USB modem for your desktop or laptop computer. It currently works with Windows XP and the developer recommends you try it first to confirm that it will work with your mobile operator. GPRS/EDGE and CDMA Treo 650s are supported. Everyone acts like the world consists of Treos &GSM networks only

hkklife @ 3/8/2006 12:07:30 PM # Q
When someone can get the broken BT stack off of the TX & LifeDrive and get one on that supports CDMA BT handsets, I'll gladly be the first to test it out-and the first to pay for the app if it works AS advertised.

At the VERY least I want to be able to dial into my backup Earthlink dial-up account @ 14.4 using my V3c (Verizon) as a MODEM. No EVDO, no 1x, no tethering. I just want to maintain a Palm --> CDMA phone as modem connection via Bluetooth.

Is that too much to ask for?

Dmitry etc.....$ awaits!

Mike Cane sighting over on Palm Addicts!

hkklife @ 3/8/2006 12:19:33 PM # Q
Perhaps Mr. Cane has taken a liking to kittens?

Looks like the Nokia 770 is going to be abandoned by Mike in favor of an Origami unit!?!

Mike;

Any chance of returning to the mothership (aka POS) anytime soon?

Did you ever actually BUY the 770 or was it just on extended evalutation loan?

Any chance of Palm doing a LifeDrive 2? Same odds.

Total freebie from Nokia. If I had paid for this mfing ps, I'd be angrier. It sets the standard for teh suck.

Now go back to your life...

Say what you like about the cat pictures, but palmaddict.typepad.com is regularly getting 50,000 hits per day (so they say). If that's right, that would be more than what PIC is getting. Aside from the cat pictures, their content is generally pretty good in terms of news and user stories - and I think it is more compelling than the boring 'Palm is doomed' comments we have seen so much of over here. YMMV

I personally enjoy the cat pictures at PA. PalmAddicts is a terrific site and Sammy is a class act. As for traffic stats, alexa.com shows the actual figures.

PA is a very good site for hearing about obscure program updates and interesting news snippets/links. However, the actual "meat'n potatoes" content as far as business-related information & opinion is nil. I prefer PIC's roundtable forum style format vs. the endlessly scrolling blog format of PA.

Ryan still runs the best Palm/mobile news site out there IMO but, as always, YMMV. I think it really requires a triple daily dosage between PIC (biz/insider/commentary) PA (rah-rah fandom & obscure news bits) and Brighthand or 1src (technical know-how or troubleshooting) to get full sampling of Palm information online. Look at it this way---I've never submitted anything to PA and just read that site. I occasionally post on BH and read it on a less-frequent-than-PIC basis. I frequently post & contribute to PIC and visit it several times throughout the day.

I just get aggravated at the incessant travelogue & kitten pictures when I am trying to view PA on a dial-up connection on my laptop or, even worse, via Blazer on my TX. Do you know HOW large a full PA page is? Many mobile devices run out of memory long or give page errors long before the entire PA page has loaded. I still remember Sammy's wild ranting & glowing review over the LifeDrive which was what prompted me to buy that miserable sod last summer--never have I ever been so disappointed & disenchanted by a piece of mobile tech, especially a POS handheld.

Yes, Samy was enamoured with the LifeDrive; now his in love with the Treo 650 - this may be the 'kiss of death'.

you just have to install a driver and setup a connection the first time you connect it to windows.
