Comments on: Opera Mini v4 Beta 2 Released

Opera Software has released a new beta of its Opera Mini version 4 mobile web browser. pera Mini 4 beta is a complete redesign of its browser with a new overview mode that allows people to browse their favorite Web sites, just like they would on a PC. Opera Mini 4 beta also features a new zoom, based on a feature introduced for Nintendo Wii browser. When zooming, Opera Mini dives into the page and then snaps to the content so scrolling is smooth while accessing the desired section immediately.

Beta 1 was good enough on my Treo 680. Hopefully, this will be the new standard now it has Secure Connections and Full Screen.

Hopefully it's a little less crashy this time around. Then again, it's a vast improvement over v3. A couple things I wish they did have was a bookmark importing feature, to bring bookmarks from previous versions, and integration with the OS's copy/paste system.

Glad you guys are having some success with it. Don't know what it is but every other time a try palminfocenter on the beta version (1 and 2) it crashes. I found vrs 3 buggy too on my Treo680. In fact I've only had success with vrs 2. Otherwise it's a great browser when it works.

When I saw the browser on the iPhone I said "Oh Wow." Maybe this browser would help make my 680 as cool.

Recent Opera betas have shown a lot of potential on Palm. Had a minor issue with it on lifedrive, but given the dearth of decent browsers on PalmOS, Opera is really poised to set the new standard.

I still think it begs for a 320x480 screen, which Palm seems intent on not providing in a smartphone.

Quick plug for the HackNDev guys... See Konquerer Embedded browser under Linux on a lifedrive: http://marex-hnd.blogspot.com/ - Some day... we'll see people re-flashing older/unsupported devices to boot directly to Linux.
