Comments on: Kinoma Player EX v4.2 Released

Kinoma has released a update to Kinoma Player EX bringing it up to v4.2. Kinoma media player software brings streaming flash video support for videos from YouTube and Google Video to the Palm OS and has a vast built-in, online media guide. Updates include faster performance, with enhanced guide caching, streaming compatibility improvements, more radio and tv stations including live traffic cameras and support for Bluetooth headphones via Softick Audio Gateway.

Kinoma Player 4.2 EX costs $24.95. The update can be download via the integrated version checker or downloaded from the PIC software store. The update is free for registered users.

I regularly use those free streaming radio stations in PocketTunes on my TX.

Now streaming YouTube? I am definately going to try this new Kinoma tonight after work. Looks fun.

Sooo.. I'm underwhelmed by the controls and abilities of the "bundled" Kinoma players on my last few Treos. But the hype on this full version is very tempting and I'd like to test it.

Where is the link to their demo?

slightly related topic - I can't get a straight answer out of sprint. does anyone know if parts of sprint tv are free? it seems a few radio/tv stations are but I'm not sure. thanks.

you have to buy it, to try it.

streaming depends, for the most part, on your connection.

on my treo 680 and t-mos gprs, not so good at the streaming youtube. a lot of choppiness.

kinoma, by the way, thinks it is the only media player out there. it scans your whole sd card and list all the media. making it quite cluttered when you look at your mp3s.

previous to the last 2-3 updates, you could "hide" your mp3s in a different folder.

kinoma sucks as an mp3 player. first, you cant switch apps without stoping the play back.second, it plays them choppy.

the same mp3 on ptunes produces no choppiness.

We've made this a preference for customers who prefer to manually control this.

In General Preferences, choose Manually for the Synchronize library preference.

MP3 playback is pretty easy compared to video+audio playback, so I wouldn't expect you to have problems. Any information you can provide to our support team is appreciated.

That's a shame. Hard to tell if something plays well with your other apps or even if you like the GUI without having a demo to test. From the feedback of people "in the know" here, it sounds like an "iffy" application.

Kinoma Player 4 EX should work great with your other apps. I use at least a couple apps that do somewhat-nefarious things with Palm OS under the hood, and I use and demo Kinoma Player on the same device every day.

The manual describes how the GUI works and has quite a few screenshots, so that might be helpful. You can find it in PDF and HTML formats at:
