Add a Bar Code Reader to the CarpeDiem V

REALVision has created a bar code reader expansion module for the CarpeDiem V, a GSM wireless voice and data modem for the Palm V series. The company has taken a module approach to expand the capability of the CarpeDiem V. The add-on module attaches to the back of CarpeDiem, actually fitting into the battery slot. It costs $600 and if ordered now, will be delivered in three weeks..

"REALVision's CarpeDiem bar code reader provides economical solutions to enterprises," said Monsess Leung, chief architect officer of REALVision. "The wireless bar code scanners that are now available in the market are over $2800, which is quite costly, and only provide data communications. CarpeDiem bar code reader not only provide data but voice functions and with affordable price."

It was recently demonstrated at the Taiwan Palm Enterprise Summit and Open Day 2001.

Yes, I'd be quite interested in an inexpensive barcode scanner too but this is out of my price range.

I believe this company Realvision positioned this product as an industrial device.

I like the idea of having a removable battery which is good for company that runs a couple of work shifts to only use one Phone but with several batteries to replace.

Cannot imagine if you have to charge up the entire Phone like OhFish when you are on the move or rather being mobile but struck with an a/c power source.

Expensive!!!
