In the conference call with investors and analysts following the earnings release, Palm's CEO Ed Colligan stated the company clearly did not meet expectations primarily due to the delayed certification of the

In a reassuring sign that some publishers are still actively committed supporting the Palm OS with high-quality new entertainment titles, two new games are on the docket from Astraware. A brief overview and sample images as well as an e-mail notification signup can be found on the company's
preview page.
Filling a long-empty void in the Palm OS market for a high-quality, side-scrolling arcade shooter, Astraware's Platypus looks to be sort of a spiritual successor to the company's own Zap! 2000 series. The sample image suggests that Astraware has been somewhat influenced by the cartoony, pastel aesthetic of the classic Sega title Fantasy Zone. Both Palm OS and Windows Mobile versions will be available.

Palm OS fans on Verizon Wireless finally have a reason to rejoice. Today marks the official release of the
Treo 755p on the Verizon network, a full six months after the device’s release on Sprint. Signs of the 755's release on Verizon have frequently appeared and disappeared over the past six months before customer reports of 755p availability through Verizon’s B2B channels began trickling in last week.
The Palm Treo 755p from Verizon Wireless is available for $399.99 after a $50 mail-in rebate and new two-year customer agreement. Customers who purchase a qualified voice plan along with a data plan may be eligible for an additional $100 credit making the Treo 755p $299.99 for those customers.

The end of the year brings about the usual "best of" and "worst of" lists. Venerable print publication Popular Mechanics has chimed in with an unlikely show of support for the
now-cancelled Palm Foleo Mobile Companion amidst the potentially misleading title of "
The Worst Gadget of 2007".
The Foleo sits atop Popular Mechanics' list of flops, beating out the underwhelming Apple TV, not because of any inherent limitations or design weaknesses. Instead, Popular Mechanics claims that the Foleo was a victim of the intense scrutiny and criticism from the online blogging community. This sentiment is in direct contrast to our earlier piece on the Wall Street Journal article that reports Jon Rubinstein and a small team of executives reviewed Palm's product strategy back in the summer and made the decision to cancel the Foleo before it hit the market.

A new
Wall Street Journal article has just appeared to confirm the
job cuts at Palm while shedding some light on the slew of problems facing the beleaguered mobile computing firm. The piece is definitely a must-read for both fans and critics of Palm as it reveals that the long-sluggish handheld manufacturer is finally attempting to mount a serious attempt to regain lost market share.
Dated December 13th, "Apple's 'Podfather' Now Aims to Revive a Wilting Palm" is written by Pui-Wing Tam. The piece offers some interesting insight into the final days of the Centro's development cycle as well as the sweeping changes occurring these days at Palm Inc. According to the WSJ, Jon Rubinstein, just recently arrived at Palm, wasted no time in making his presence felt. He requested several late-stage running changes be made to the device and ordered Palm employees to work more closely with the device's ODM partner. The WSJ piece then goes on to state that the Centro shipped to Sprint a month earlier than expected and has been the recipient of some of the strongest reviews of any Palm product in recent memory.
